X got Keyed - How do/Can I fix it?
 

I went to see the movie world trade center today. I came out of the movie and my passenger side doors were keyed. One scracth from the mid of the front dor to the mid of the back. Does anyone know of any product that can remove it? I'm not quite sure how deep the scratch is and i'm really hoping it doesn't have to be painted. Can car detailing shops usually buff them out? Any help, ideas, advice? Thoughts on who can do the work in the LA area? Any leads are greatly apprecitated.

If the scratch is not deep enough to catch your fingernail, go to the car parts store, buy a tube of Meguiar's Scratch-X and buff it out with a towel and some elbow grease. :) If the scratch is deep enough to catch your fingernail, then it's likely you'll need a body shop to do some repairwork. :rolleyes:

If the scratch is not too deep, the damage might be limited only to the clear coat layer. The body shop can wetsand it and resquirt a coat of clear to level the surface. If the scratch has penetrated the clearcoat to the paint, then the body shop will have to sand it down beyond the clearcoat, and squirt both paint and clearcoat. At this point, you would be into an insurance comp claim repair. :confused:

So sorry to hear about that...people who do that are absolute losers. If they have to respray, it's a big job because most of the time they do entire panels. I recently had a scuff on my bumper taken care of by doing the entire bumper...the shop (owned by the local BMW dealer) had a way of exact matching the paint with some sort of paint color scanning that gave them the exact formula to match my particular vehicle.

Had the same thing happen 2 weeks after we got the X and after it had been polished! I used clearcoat polish to buff out the marks. I got it in Pep-Boys. Now the X always has a slight coat of dirt so as not to attract jealous dirtbags!

I tried to buff out the scratches. Most of them came out pretty well, however there was about 3 inches that were just too deep on the front and about a 4 inch on the back door. Anybody know a good body/paint shop in LA - preferably in the valley?

IMHO their paintwork is excellent - best I've seen. They will redo any work not done to your satisfaction and offer a lifetime ownership guarantee. BTW - they are expensive.

Are you talking about the grey/black part of the bumper? If so there are others that would be interested in that process given the fact that most body shops say they cannot repair bumpers.

Man that sucks. Sorry to hear it. We had a bunch of kids doing that around here. I got lucky and never got hit, but a few people that live next to me did.

After I was hearing about all the goings on I wanted to contact this company and see if they could incoporate their design into car security.
