Here are the pics....
What kind of exhaust tips are those? They look nice. Do you have a 3.0? Please post more info on the exhaust tips. What tires did you get?
Looks excellent - nice job!
The exhaust tips are Ractive tips. They were a steal at only 45 bux per tip. Had them welded on at a BMW body shop. Cost 180 to cut off the old ones and weld the new ones on. The tires are Toyo Proxes. And yes it is a 3.0.
Wow they look great! Good to imagine how my Topaz 3.0i would look with the 4.6is 20's and 4.6is exhaust tips. :)
Very nice......
Looks great. Congrats!
Looks great!
Where did you get the Reactive exhaust tips at? Thanks. For some reason I can not find any tire shop in Colorado that can get a hold o the Toyo Proxes...
Got the Ractive ( no E ) from autobarn.com. Thats weird that you cant find the proxes. You can get em online for sure.
hey looks fantastic, dont you long for the 4.6is flared look??? if so im in the same boat but can this be done without visiting the dealer for a trade in???
Wow...the exhaust tips look like a perfect fit. Thanks for the pictures and information on the exhaust tips...Are these the ones you got from autobarn? =>http://www.autobarn.net/raunextip.html
Now I'm not sure if I should go with the black chrome or stainless. :dunno: |
WOW. I am ordering a pair. Love it. Exactly what I wanted. Friend of mine who has his own body shop says he will weld it for free for me. Same quandary as you guys. Black or chrome....choices choices choices...
Yes, those are the same ones I got from Autobarn. For me I went with the chrome to match the wheels. It depends a lot on the color scheme of your car and what goes best with it.
Just ordered the black ones. Cant wait :)
Thanks. |
Mickey, what color is your X? Please post a picture of it after the tip install? I have to see the black ones on your X before I place my order. Thanks.
Mine is Tit Silver (I love saying that) and I had already painted the exhaust tips black.
Will post pics once I am done. |
loooooksss hotttt ;)

lOOKS HOT....MINE IS THE SAME COLOR...I WANT THOSE EXHAUST TIPS
I'm now having trouble deciding what to get chrome or black...
What color car do you have?
For anyone having trouble deciding what color to choose between the black and chrome. Go with the black. It's not really black at all. I saw them in person today at my local muffler shop but they were listed at $90 each. The black is like a shiny titanium black. Looks very good. And I have a Toledo Blue.

The tips looked huge out of the box, but as you can see, they are just slightly smaller than the stock 4.6is once installed. I had the muffler shop take about 1 1/2 inch off (in length) from the inlet in order for those tips to tuck back in a bit from the bumper. Otherwise, they will be parallel with the rear bumper, which makes it stick out a tad too much for my tastes (the original overall length of these tips are about 9 1/2 inches!). |
very nice...........

Here are a couple of quick close up shots of the exhaust tips I just snapped off in my garage tonight. As you can see...the tips extend out quite a bit even after sawing off about 1 1/2 inch. Hope it gives you a good idea of how far out you want those tips to hang. GL |
Mine stick out a good inch more than yours do and I really like the look of it. It all depends on how aggressive you want your cars ass to look.

Can you take some close ups as well please? Thanks. |
Sweet...look man.....Nice tips...
Wow i reallylike those tips, unluckily i just changed mine to 4.4 exhaust and threw out the old 3.0 exhaust, do yo0u think I can fit these tips into the 4.4 excause which has 2 tips?
Wonder how this would look like on my 645ci? :dunno:

Haha, I totally agree that Autobarn or Ractive should throw some money my way. I mean like you said DKL they have apparently sold out. Anyway, glad you all like the mods and thanks for the compliments.

Looks good MC. Those are the black chrome right? Goes great wit your paint.
DO these Ractive T815 tips fit a 4.4 sp exhaust? I noticed in one picture there are 2 outlets from a 4.4 exhaust.
I guess I'm not doing this mod. This is the 5th place to tell me that they are out of stock.
"We are sorry, but the item you have ordered (t67t815b) is currently out of stock and has been placed on back order with the manufacturer. Your order will be held in a backorder status and shipped to you within 24 hours upon the receipt of stock, unless we are notified by you to cancel this order. Generally backorder products take 4-6 weeks to arrive in our warehouse from the date of order." |

Thanks guys! The tips are chrome, I guess the paint makes them look darker and I also added the 4.8 exhaust trim. I had them cut about 2" off the tips so they would tuck under the bumper nicely. The shop took great pain to make everything lineup and did a fantastic job for $40!!!!! Several other places around here quoted me $200-300.

What can I do to replace the black ones on my 4.4 anyone have a suggestion that would lokk either like the ractive mod or make my tips look like a Remus ? I want some stainless back there as I Mod my muffler system. |
maybe you can do it
depending on how far apart are the end pipes of the 4.4i, maybe you can cut out the back wall of the T815 tips and slide them over the 2 tips of the 4.4i. my brother has the 4.4i when he comes over i will masure the distance from the edge of 1 tip to the other and or i will try to use my tips to see if it will slide over them, i`ll do this on monday when i go over to the shop.
Thanks for everyones help. I have been having trouble getting a hold of the T815B tips (black chrome), they are to my understanding to be on backorder for 4 to 6 weeks. Thats one of the reasons why I having been able to get them while almost everyone else has been able to. I just decided to get the chrome ones and hopefully the order goes through. Thanks again.

The reason I ask is because I have PDC, and I already had them installed but the sensors are going off right now. I have to go back on Monday or Tuesday to get it fixed but I will try here for suggestions first. I didn't get any part cut off of the Ractive tip... I might try a car wash. |
Please keep us updated on whether or not they fit on a 4.4, I have 3.0 and upgraded to 4.4 howeve I threw away to the trash my 3.0 tips and now im screwed because I like these tips much better. Maybe ill have to purchase tips for a 3.0 that i threw away
Isn't the tip of the 3.0 OEM exhaust slanted down a little bit? so how are these tips pointing straight out if they were slipped over the OEM without modifying the OEM tip 1st? I think I'm missing something here? someone please explain. Thx
Quote:
Where did you go???? I had my 4.8 tips put on for $60, that included cutting off the 4.4 tips and welding the new ones on. |
Quote:
did 3.0 OEM tips on my X5 were cut off and the new tips welded on  see here http://www.xoutpost.com/gallery/showi...imageuser=1125 and here http://www.xoutpost.com/gallery/showi...imageuser=1125 |
Uaaaah thx SuaveX5. Are you doing an 05 facelift? You really need the 4.8 replica wheels and the clear corners. That would make your X look awosome :wow:
Do you have to remove the bumper to cutoff the OEM muffler tip? if not, how do you cut it off with the bumper on? is there room to do that? Quote:

Very nice SuaveX5. Looking forward to seeing the finished project. Keep us posted and good luck.
Congrats. good job on that Exhaust tips. do you have to remove the plastic cover to install the tip ? I want to get it for my black x5 too. what do you think ?
thanks, yeah it is best to remove it that way you can do a cleaner job,
go for it it makes it look so much nicer  |
Those Proxes look great
I had the exhaust tips installed in 20 minutes - no need to remove anything. Painful to watch but the shop used a saw-zaw and cut the pipe leaving an inch sticking out from the base of the muffler. He put the tips on and tack welded in place, checked for alignment and then welded in place.
Depending on your taste, I had the shop cut the tips by 2 inches so they would tuck under the bumper. http://www.xoutpost.com/attachments/x...e-2005-212.jpg |
^^ what size is your 87?20x9.5?nice x bro!

Just had the ractive tips installed last week. I'm waiting for the heat trim in the mail. thanks for the help guys! |
those wheels look awesome, can i ask how wide are rims, and are you thinking of lowering your car??
Ewen |
Ewen,
You asking me? If you are, the wheels are the spoke 87 replica's. They are staggered so the front is 9.5 in the front and 10.5 in the back. I'd like to lower my about an inch or two but I don't want to mess up the suspension. BMW sets everything in the suspension at a certain height. I'm wondering if altering it would have negative effects down the road. (get it, down the road) ha. I think it will be alright however. All I need to do is purchase springs for the front and then have BMW lower the air suspension in the back. Thinkin' bout it. Any idea's anyone?? |
yes thanks, i love the look , i have 19 x 9 fronts and 19 x 10 rears and they don't quite do it for me, i'm struggling between lowering it or going to slightly bigger wheels, and then lowering it.
again i think yours looks sweet Ewen |
AZ Alpine.......where did you purchase your Rep. 87's ?
Are you happy with quality & service ? Thanks |
Nice.
i like it, nice job
tip or whole muffler? ?looks like mine from the back.
I purchased the 87's from a private party on Craiglist. I'm not too sure where he got them from, sorry. Ebay might be your best bet unless you can find them locally. I also added on just the tips (Ractive).
try to look 'em up on Craigslist. I got my Proxess there for my 4.6is. it's a long shot but you'll be saving a lot of dough. got mine for $800 cash tax-free.That's Los Angeles, CALI price. they're awesome tires!
YOUR RIDE IS SIIIIIIIIIIIICK DUDE!! I HAVE A 3.0I, WILL PUT SOME PICS UP SOO, I HAVE SIMMILAR TIPS AND WERE FITTED JUST LIKE YOURS, SOUNDS LIKE A 4.4. HOW DID YOU GET YOUR WHEELS TO STICK OUT SO MUCH??
Hello, I'm new to the forum. I have 01 X5 sport black/black and was thinking of getting the ractive exhaust tips. I have a question though - would they fit my exhaust end once it gets cut (it is pointing down and has some type of black cover over like tips). And should i get the black chrome or chrome only?
