What kind of exhaust tips are those? They look nice. Do you have a 3.0? Please post more info on the exhaust tips. What tires did you get?

UCrewX5 05-15-2005 08:26 PM

Looks excellent - nice job!

BaKerR414 05-15-2005 08:33 PM

The exhaust tips are Ractive tips. They were a steal at only 45 bux per tip. Had them welded on at a BMW body shop. Cost 180 to cut off the old ones and weld the new ones on. The tires are Toyo Proxes. And yes it is a 3.0.

Dblock2151 05-15-2005 08:42 PM

Wow they look great! Good to imagine how my Topaz 3.0i would look with the 4.6is 20's and 4.6is exhaust tips. :)

ATCX5 05-15-2005 08:46 PM

Very nice......

benathon 05-16-2005 01:01 AM

Where did you get the Reactive exhaust tips at? Thanks. For some reason I can not find any tire shop in Colorado that can get a hold o the Toyo Proxes...

BaKerR414 05-16-2005 03:13 AM

Got the Ractive ( no E ) from autobarn.com. Thats weird that you cant find the proxes. You can get em online for sure.

X5Bob 05-16-2005 08:03 AM

hey looks fantastic, dont you long for the 4.6is flared look??? if so im in the same boat but can this be done without visiting the dealer for a trade in???

dkl 05-16-2005 01:06 PM

Wow...the exhaust tips look like a perfect fit. Thanks for the pictures and information on the exhaust tips...Are these the ones you got from autobarn? =>http://www.autobarn.net/raunextip.html

Now I'm not sure if I should go with the black chrome or stainless. :dunno:

MiCkEy 05-16-2005 01:24 PM

WOW. I am ordering a pair. Love it. Exactly what I wanted. Friend of mine who has his own body shop says he will weld it for free for me. Same quandary as you guys. Black or chrome....choices choices choices...

BaKerR414 05-16-2005 01:51 PM

Yes, those are the same ones I got from Autobarn. For me I went with the chrome to match the wheels. It depends a lot on the color scheme of your car and what goes best with it.

MiCkEy 05-16-2005 02:02 PM

Just ordered the black ones. Cant wait :)

Thanks.

dkl 05-16-2005 02:32 PM

Mickey, what color is your X? Please post a picture of it after the tip install? I have to see the black ones on your X before I place my order. Thanks.

MiCkEy 05-16-2005 03:11 PM

Mine is Tit Silver (I love saying that) and I had already painted the exhaust tips black.
Will post pics once I am done.

I'm ordering those tips today. I want to buy the tires local because they will change out my summer for my winter set ups for free.

lOOKS HOT....MINE IS THE SAME COLOR...I WANT THOSE EXHAUST TIPS

benathon 05-16-2005 07:52 PM

I'm now having trouble deciding what to get chrome or black...

BaKerR414 05-17-2005 07:19 PM

What color car do you have?

benathon 05-19-2005 03:47 PM

For anyone having trouble deciding what color to choose between the black and chrome. Go with the black. It's not really black at all. I saw them in person today at my local muffler shop but they were listed at $90 each. The black is like a shiny titanium black. Looks very good. And I have a Toledo Blue.

Thanks to BaKerR414 for the idea and info, I had those same exhaust tips installed today and they look awesome. After a bit of contemplating, I decided to go with the stainless steel rather than the black chrome, to match it with the running board. Plus the fact that I wanted a little bit of a contrast in the rear rather than a complete blackout look.

The tips looked huge out of the box, but as you can see, they are just slightly smaller than the stock 4.6is once installed. I had the muffler shop take about 1 1/2 inch off (in length) from the inlet in order for those tips to tuck back in a bit from the bumper. Otherwise, they will be parallel with the rear bumper, which makes it stick out a tad too much for my tastes (the original overall length of these tips are about 9 1/2 inches!).

Can you take some close up pictures of the length of the exhaust tips that you have sticking out? i want a good idea on how far to leave mine out.

Here are a couple of quick close up shots of the exhaust tips I just snapped off in my garage tonight. As you can see...the tips extend out quite a bit even after sawing off about 1 1/2 inch. Hope it gives you a good idea of how far out you want those tips to hang. GL

BaKerR414 05-23-2005 03:35 AM

Mine stick out a good inch more than yours do and I really like the look of it. It all depends on how aggressive you want your cars ass to look.

They look great. I'm having mine installed on Saturday, so I'll take pics and post. If anyone is interested, the 4.8is black plastic trim surrounds for the exhaust opening part numbers are:

511 270 10123
511 270 10124

About $7.00 each.

Thanks for the compliment. Again, I have to give credit to BakerR414 who started it all! I've been wanting to modify the tips for quite sometimes, but couldn't find the right one, until now. I think Autobarn or Ractive should compensate him or something for the post since all those tips have been sold out now :) Funny how little details like exhaust tips makes such a difference in the way the car looks.

BaKerR414 06-16-2005 02:06 AM

Looks good MC. Those are the black chrome right? Goes great wit your paint.

Niagara 06-16-2005 04:24 PM

DO these Ractive T815 tips fit a 4.4 sp exhaust? I noticed in one picture there are 2 outlets from a 4.4 exhaust.

benathon 06-16-2005 05:58 PM

I guess I'm not doing this mod. This is the 5th place to tell me that they are out of stock.

"We are sorry, but the item you have ordered (t67t815b) is currently out of stock and has been placed on back order with the manufacturer. Your order will be held in a backorder status and shipped to you within 24 hours upon the receipt of stock, unless we are notified by you to cancel this order. Generally backorder products take 4-6 weeks to arrive in our warehouse from the date of order."

Thanks guys! The tips are chrome, I guess the paint makes them look darker and I also added the 4.8 exhaust trim. I had them cut about 2" off the tips so they would tuck under the bumper nicely. The shop took great pain to make everything lineup and did a fantastic job for $40!!!!! Several other places around here quoted me $200-300.

SuaveX5 06-17-2005 08:10 AM

get them here

All five places I tried said that they had them in stock on the website but after I placed the order I was got emails a day or two later telling me they are out of stock and the item is on backorder.

suvxccessory is part of truck and carxccessory.com so its basically the same company.

So the direct answer is no this Mod is only for 3.0 mufflers then, shit i liked it.

What can I do to replace the black ones on my 4.4 anyone have a suggestion that would lokk either like the ractive mod or make my tips look like a Remus ? I want some stainless back there as I Mod my muffler system.

SuaveX5 06-17-2005 08:58 PM

maybe you can do it

depending on how far apart are the end pipes of the 4.4i, maybe you can cut out the back wall of the T815 tips and slide them over the 2 tips of the 4.4i. my brother has the 4.4i when he comes over i will masure the distance from the edge of 1 tip to the other and or i will try to use my tips to see if it will slide over them, i`ll do this on monday when i go over to the shop.

benathon 06-18-2005 01:36 PM

Thanks for everyones help. I have been having trouble getting a hold of the T815B tips (black chrome), they are to my understanding to be on backorder for 4 to 6 weeks. Thats one of the reasons why I having been able to get them while almost everyone else has been able to. I just decided to get the chrome ones and hopefully the order goes through. Thanks again.

The reason I ask is because I have PDC, and I already had them installed but the sensors are going off right now. I have to go back on Monday or Tuesday to get it fixed but I will try here for suggestions first. I didn't get any part cut off of the Ractive tip... I might try a car wash.

I guessed it depends on the muffler shop. The shop I took it to didn't have to remove anything...cutting the OEM tips off and welding on the new ones with the mufflers and bumper in place.

I had the exhaust tips installed in 20 minutes - no need to remove anything. Painful to watch but the shop used a saw-zaw and cut the pipe leaving an inch sticking out from the base of the muffler. He put the tips on and tack welded in place, checked for alignment and then welded in place.

Depending on your taste, I had the shop cut the tips by 2 inches so they would tuck under the bumper.

You are correct. The external part of the OEM tips (somewhat rectangular in shape and bends down) is about 2.75 inches. However, after you cut away that portion, the tips are only about 2.25 inches...thus, the Ractive tips fit over the cut-off stock tips perfectly.

Ewen,
You asking me? If you are, the wheels are the spoke 87 replica's. They are staggered so the front is 9.5 in the front and 10.5 in the back. I'd like to lower my about an inch or two but I don't want to mess up the suspension. BMW sets everything in the suspension at a certain height. I'm wondering if altering it would have negative effects down the road. (get it, down the road) ha. I think it will be alright however. All I need to do is purchase springs for the front and then have BMW lower the air suspension in the back. Thinkin' bout it. Any idea's anyone??

yes thanks, i love the look , i have 19 x 9 fronts and 19 x 10 rears and they don't quite do it for me, i'm struggling between lowering it or going to slightly bigger wheels, and then lowering it.

again i think yours looks sweet

tip or whole muffler? ?looks like mine from the back.

I purchased the 87's from a private party on Craiglist. I'm not too sure where he got them from, sorry. Ebay might be your best bet unless you can find them locally. I also added on just the tips (Ractive).

try to look 'em up on Craigslist. I got my Proxess there for my 4.6is. it's a long shot but you'll be saving a lot of dough. got mine for $800 cash tax-free.That's Los Angeles, CALI price. they're awesome tires!

Hello, I'm new to the forum. I have 01 X5 sport black/black and was thinking of getting the ractive exhaust tips. I have a question though - would they fit my exhaust end once it gets cut (it is pointing down and has some type of black cover over like tips). And should i get the black chrome or chrome only?
