X5 4.8is trunk trim questions
1 Attachment(s)
I'm not that familiar with the contents of the 4.8is trunk and hopefully someone can help me out. Here are my questions:
1. What size spare is included with the car? 2. Does the car come with a trunk tray? From the ETK it shows two different trays. (see attached picture) 3. The ETK specs that 2 of the trays are present? (My 2005 4.4i came with no such trays). 4. Any idea if one of the trays can be used in a 4.4i? (I like the idea of having some storage area under the trunk floor.) |
the spare inst a full size spare its tall and thin thats why there is room under part #1 and yes u can use all the 4.8 parts if u go with the 4.6/4.8 spare..

Here is a pic of my 4.8is spare.

Since the 4.8is has a "spacesaver' style spare, it uses the bottom tray as shown in your diagram. As a result there is a storage area under the hard floor that is about 2 - 3 inches deep, very handy for stashing all those bits and pieces. There is also space around the spare to put things, like the towbar for the hitch.

What is the tire size of the spare? Has anyone just taken it out to gain more storage space or is it possible that the loss of weight in the rear would affect the balance of the car? Does anyone think it's a bad idea to get rid of my current spare which is a 17" wheel (my car has 19" wheels) and put in the emergency spare instead?
If the bottom tray is the one used on the 'is models, what is the tray above it for and in what cars is it used? |
The top tray illustrated is the hard "floor" that is covered in carpeting and has rubber tie down straps attached and clicks into place. It in turn is supported in the centre by the knob looking part (#8) that fits onto the bolt shaft that holds the spare in place. So it is the top tray and the bottom tray as illustrated.

On my new '06 4.8, there is actually a carpeted tray underneath the cargo floor panel. That is, there is a floor panel w/the rubber tie-downs, and then under that if you lift up the floor, you will find a hard spare tire cover/tray that is carpeted. Although it is only 3" deep or so, you can store some tools, jumper cables, etc. on it easily. The tray itself is held in place by a couple of clips that you turn to remove. Under all that is the mini-sized spare that comes with the 20" wheels on the 4.8 instead of a full size spare. I don't see why you couldn't use the same parts on a 3.0 or 4.4, but it would probably require use of the mini-spare from the looks of it.

Thanks for the information guys, I understand now about parts 1 and 7, but what I still don't get is what is part #17.
|
On my '06, there is no part 17, unless the diagram is referring to the cloth insulation that is attached to the bottom of the floor panel. Otherwise, the 4.8 just has parts nos. 1 and 7, at least that's how mine is equipped.
