Looking for a used X5

I'm looking to buy a used X5, either an 01 or 02. i am only looking to spend around 20K, I'd prefer the 4.4 liter but would take either. What area of the country is the best to buy one for the lowest price? What type of mileage am I going to be looking at, and what sort of options. I would really like Xenon headlights and heated seats along with the premium sound system. Are there any trouble years that I shouldn't buy?

Thanks, Drew

Go to cars.com and search on pricing. Enter your zipcode and put "any" when it asks "show cars X amount of miles from your zip code). For what you want, at the price you want to pay, you'll be getting something with almost 100K miles on it. Do you really want to do that?

Another good site to consider is carmax.com. You can see the nationwide iventory and prices so it's easy to compare milage, year, location and cost. They say they don't haggle over the prices at all - so the price you see is the price you get.

I got my 03' CPO X5 Blk on Blk for 28K w/ trade plus tax/title came out to 31k. Has 52K miles on it. LOVE THE CPO. Took mine in several times for minor stuff, they fixed it before i got my free pepsi and didn't even have a chance to see the movie playing in the dealership..

I'll also add that hunting for the killer deal is worth it. Last Feb. I got my '02 CPO 4.4i X5 sport/premium/nav/blah blah blah with 14,690 miles on it for $33.5K from a private party (transfering out of the country - had to sell it quickly. I called on it an hour after it was listed and bought it). I looked for a year for the perfect deal. My commute is 9 miles round trip...six months later I just turned over 19K miles. :) See picture below.

I've used the CPO for minor things and each time I've gotten a nice BMW loaner free. Can't beat that. I even got all the fluids changed free under the maintance plan that came with the car. It also came with lo-jack, tire/rim warrentee and an all interior warrentee. I feel I got a smokin' deal.

If you can be patient, wait for the right one.
