Bluetooth sounds 'far away'

My bluetooth functions fine, but whenever I talk to someone they say I sound "Far Away". Does anybody else have this problem - any suggestions on how to fix? I don't have this problem in any of my other bimmers, just the X.

Me too.....

I have the same problem, and I've had it with two different phones and two different providers....a RAZR from Cingular(which works awesome with the bluetooth!) and a treo from Verizon. I've taken to just not using the bluetooth very often, and only on quiet streets with the climate control turned way down. Any input?

Part of the problem is that the microphone is mounted closer to the passenger seat. Some members have reversed the microphone with the sunroof switch, to get the mic. closer to the driver. I use my Treo 650 bluetooth about 50% of the time. If it is going to be a long conversation, I switch hands free off, and use the phone itself.

is it 'easy' to switch the microphone location. I sometimes lean over quite a bit and speak louder but that doesn't seem to help. Has there been any cases of microphones just going bad? Anyone know of a part # for a new microphone?

It's a easy switch between spots but I found that by updating the phones firmware to be my problem.

Updating the phones firmware? Is that downloading something to the phone or do you have to go to your service provider - what does that mean/how do or can I do it?

I'm using a Moto E815 from Verizon with the latest update. Since I've just got the X I've asked several people how the bluetooth sounds on their end and so far everyone has told me that it sounds fine. No echo and not sounding far away.

Switching the MIC and sunroof switch does work as well as upgrading the MIC to the new version. I have done both. The new MIC can be purchased from our good friend Tom at EAS.

It is $65.00...good deal.

Also the phone also plays a part. I have a Motorola V635 and a Treo 650. The sound quality on the V635 is much butter. This has to do with the firmware of the device. Palm recently released a new firmware for the Treo and one of the specific fixes was Bluetooth car kits.

Updating my phones software was the best solution for me. I tried the new mic and the mic position switch but it didn't make any difference until I updated the firmware.

I would suggest that since, it's free.

I would try the phone update first. Firmware on the phone is easy, you will need to look under the settings>phone status>other information menu.

A good site for flex updating (and other modifications) would be http://www.planetmotox.net. FYI, I am using SW version R374_G_0E.42.09R on my personal razr with no problems.

Thanks, I'll try to update the firmware before doing anything else. The cheaper the solution the better.

What is the "latest" update for the E815, and if I don't have it, how do I get it?

Hey Greg, they should have the update on Motorola's website. Do a search to figure which firmware you currently have and how many updates are available. I did a search on the E815 and found "Vibrate is stronger (that was very good news to me)
Bluetoothe echo problem gone (also very good news to me)
camera seems better in low light conditions, but I will need to give it more testing
Voice command dissappearing when all quick texts deleted issue gone now"...

I went by my Verizon store yesterday, and they ended up giving me a brand new E815, and it does have the new firmware version # 8720_01.1E.00 on it. The vibrate is stronger now! I took a low light picture last night, and it is MUCH clearer as well!
