Let's Play - Name That Part!

Found this in the trunk under the cargo tray by the spare tire. Not sure if is even part of the X5. Anyone????

That must be the Flux Capacitor :D

With every car I've ever had, after a few years I've had a little bin of various parts like that. Never did I ever find out what any of them were for. :dunno:

That is the Flux Capacitor I'll call Doc and tell him you found it ....lol I have no idea dude I'll take a look in mine in a bit and let you know.

dr.jay 08-30-2006 02:05 PM

So you mean if I go 69 mph at 12:05 I can take the X back to the future??? I'm off to buy some MSFT!!

I am guessing I can just throw this part out huh?

I would save it just in case, but most likely you will never find out what it's from. Put it in your glove box and show it to the dealer on your next service visit -- maybe they will know what it is.

Looks like a wall adaptor for a telephone to me.

that's exactly what it is.. LOL

notice the wall hanger holes...

Nope, a wall adaptor would not have instructions on it. Might be part of a baby seat???

I had thought it was part of hold down for the spare or that it was a holder for the jack.... guess not!

Some bidness phones have adaptors that look a lot like that.

The things that led me to my conclusion were the words adaptor & base unit, and those holes that Hayaku mentioned. :dunno:

Doesn't seem to go with your interior, it's brown, isn't it?

its not a bmw part.. ALL bmw parts have a parts number and logo...

its a wall adapter for a phone...

broknlgs24 08-30-2006 04:16 PM

i agree that it's some sort of phone adapter.

2002Silver4.6is 08-30-2006 04:18 PM

Thank you for the responses! Didn't want to get rid of something till I knew what it was or wasn't!

Nope, no brown interior.... black.

to be precise, it's a base for a Panasonic (95% sure) cordless phone. One would use this attachment to hang the phone on the wall.

chubyball 08-30-2006 06:02 PM

I have that thing on my panasonic phone. :) it's a hook adapter to hang the phone unit onto the wall.

Speaking of the "trunk under the cargo tray by the spare tire" area, I also found something wierd bolted in, and in an unoccupied state.
It's at the rear left of the spare wheel, sort of small metallic clamp with a red insert, used for holding something. Found it while doing a DVD install and had to remove it to install the video switcher.
Anyone know what it was/is?

staffop 08-31-2006 08:00 PM

Ah, that will be the clamp for the removable towbar. Mine is stowed here (never used). Would like to use mine at some point but not sure where the electrics will plug in for the trailer!

Donegal TDI 09-01-2006 07:14 AM

Now I can sleep at night,
thought I had paid for something that wasn't there :)

Odd to have a towbar and no socket for trailer electrics.
Was it factory fitted?
