front vent

I wonder if anybody can help me with instructions on how to remove the front center vent. It looks like the "tooth" from the center wheel are gone and the stealer wants to charge me over $200 to replace. I may be able to do it my self if I have the instructions.

Part # 1 in the diagram:

Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks El Jeffe, good reference. However, I took a look at my car but I don't have nav, just the single cd player. (01 3.0 x5), can't really see how to remove that. If anyone has any addt'l input that will be great.

Front center vent removal

Anyone has any idea how to replace this on an x5 without Nav?

The stealer wants to charge me 300, the part is only 85 !

Any help will be greatly appreciated .

Pull off the know on the radio and look for a small hole bottom right of the recess. Insert a small Torx (T6 I think.) into the screw and give it a quarter turn and the head unit should swing out. The cassette/radio is held in by screws covered by the head unit.

Thank you Zulu, but not sure if I am understanding correctly. You say pull the knob for the radio, to then pull the entire radio/cd player out and then pull the center vent out? - The stealer said they have to remove the glove compartment, I think they are full of BS.

You may also have to go at parts through the glove box. The radio part was first guess.

The glove box removal process is not bad either - look up the directions for replacing the final stage resistor for the A/C and it has great instructions for the glove box removal.
