Help - Exhaust emmision Values sensor
Guys, only my second post in 2.5 mnths since I bought my second hand X-5. First time was 6 days after buying it and my air con started making a loud clicking niose. Turned out one of the fans had snapped - £350
Today I got the car cleaned proffesionally and when I went to move it, it was dead. Not the most of mechanical people but quickly determined it was a dead battery. Got it jump started and of she went. However all the warning lights were on. As I drove of they all started tot urn of except for the Exhaust emmision Values sensor. This is still on, can it just be coincedence? can the flat battery have had an impact ? Any ideas I cant deal with another issue so soon after buying a low milage 2001 X5 |
Hi Guys, ANyone with any advice or feedback.
Could it be something to do with the car being turned over without any power ? |
If you have moved the car without giving it a chance to warm up (ie back it out of a driveway only) and then do the same thing again to move it back in, the sensor is actually detecting that the emissions are incorrect.
This is because there is excessive fuel (from start ups) that hasn't had time to be blown out as the car has only had a short run. It happened to me.... Take it for a spin on a reasonable journey and next time you start her up it should be fine. If not, then look for a further problem. Cheers |
Thanks LVR.
Took the car for a spin about 10 min to try and give the battery a bot more juice yesterday but problem pesisted. When drove it to work this morning same problem was there light still on. Went up to the gym at lunch and low and behold it is now off. Must be down to the battery going dead. Dont know why but am relived as didnt want to spend any more so soon after getting the car. So if any one else experinices the problem my advie leave it for a day or two and see what happens |
Excellent....
If it was the same as mine, just needed miles to fix it. Apparently it senses the fuel content and reports it back as a problem based on the mixture it detects versus distance travelled, (thinking there's a fault in the tune). I learnt not to just start her up and move it a few feet then switch off. |
