Yup, at around 137K miles, unfortunately, the steptronic/automatic transmission failed (something wrong with the 2nd gear sensor) and I ended up with a replacement remanufactured BMW transmission. Yes, I did replace the ATF in the early 100K miles but I guess it didn't help. I don't think it hurt it either. It was an electronic sensor failure. Yes it was expensive, but I did have some help with the cost from Crevier BMW. Now, it runs great and the transmission has a 2 year/unlimited miles warranty from BMW North America.

Otherwise, the rest of the car has being doing fine. The engine has been superb. I also had my CV boots replaced before. An intake adjustor was replaced because it was leaking and making a high-pitched sound. The rest was regular maintainance (oil/tires/coolant/brake fluid/brake rotors/pads/spark plugs/air filter/microfilter/fuel filter).

Well, I did have '89 E30 325i which made it up to 290K miles before I got rid of it and it was running fine and even passed CA strict emissions test for its model year....;)

Could you please describe the type of high-pitched sound that the leaking intake adjustor was making and when did it make this sound, all the time or off and on? Thanks

High-pitched sound only at idle. Once the RPMs went up, the sound was gone. It was quite loud.

Do a search on intake adjustor replacement....

Thank you, I believe we have that too, and it's annoying as hell!

Here's the thread.
