You can do it yourself. It's just a bulb swap plus securing the heat sink somewhere. :)

jlevi 09-15-2006 06:05 PM

Exactly :)
JL

manny 09-16-2006 01:59 PM

JL

does this come with installation instruction?

manny 09-24-2006 10:21 PM

JL

I was told by the dealership that those Predator ICE (OEM Angel Eyes Enhancement ) are not compatible ( wattage ) with OEM. They said BMW uses 2.5 watts only and the aftermarket uses 3.5 watts which they say will screw up the electronics/computer inside. Please advise.

Thanks

jlevi 10-24-2006 04:53 PM

Actually, the OEM fixtures use 10W, ours use 3W. I'd advise going to a dealership who understands the cars they are working on.

This product will not damage the car at all.

i have fitted mine into my 2005 x5, and then put them into a 2001 e39 530.. so they fit for sure, and work for multiple bmws as well;)

5W Version will not be available for quite a long time, as we've had such a good response to the 3W version.

the brighter the better should be jlevi's motto :nanana: u have created the brightest and most stand out products, dont give up on this one

jlevi 11-01-2006 06:00 PM

We're certainly not giving up - but at this time we've found that our customers are very happy with the 3W solution, so we've suggested to our manufacturer that they take their time on the 5W version... they're going to focus on other projects for a little while until the demand for 3W dies down a little bit... right now they sell pretty well :)

GeneArch 11-08-2006 06:11 PM

I installed mine on Sunday. To say that they are hard to get into place is an understatement. They are a royal biatch to snap in. I damned near scrapped the whole thing an returned them. It's important to make sure you align the tabs correctly, even so.. I wrestled with each for some time until they finally snapped into place. (I have the scratches on my hands to prove it)

The wiring was the easy part, it's real important that you clamp down real hard on the T-Taps. I still had a hard time getting a connection until I opened up the T-Taps and gently pinched the pieces a bit closer together.

Also, the Black & red connectors that look like they should plug into each other? They don't.... leave them unattached. Who knows what they are for??? :dunno: And all that extra wire? :dunno:

JLevi.. SHAME on you for not including detailed instructions or a URL to your website in the box. My frustration getting these installed was uncalled for, had there been detailed info that explained things a bit, I would have been fine.

jlevi 11-08-2006 06:37 PM

I'm very sorry to hear you had a hard time installing them. Did you remove the headlights? Was it an issue of fitment, or of access?

The extra wire & connectors are for remote activation, a feature we hope to introduce soon...

I will work on getting better directions.

Thanks
JL

No, my E53 is a 2006. You can simply remove the little "access panel" that snaps right off. The issue was fitment.. they simply are far too tight.

Access is easy on the passenger side, the drivers side requires that you remove something. I'm not even sure what it was, (water reservoir?) I just knew it had to be moved a tad to get access.

ok so can somebody give me some type of directions in the meantime? i understand where the fixture is going just dont know which wires i am tapping in to. the link above didnt work.

thanks!!!

jlevi 11-09-2006 05:55 PM

What you want to do is tap into the exact wires that are going into the old bulb.

Thanks!
JL

cue03 11-09-2006 06:18 PM

Is this a bulb only replacement replacement?

I think i asked this before but I can't remember the answer. I may be buying a 04 4.8is and want to be sure I can do this fairly easily without the need of opening up stuff.

Also do you have the fog light replacements as well.

Thanks.

jlevi 11-10-2006 12:10 AM

All you do is replace the angel eye bulb that comes from the factory, basically.

We do have fog light replacements - both bulbs ($29.99 for hyperwhite) and full HID kits ($275 shipped)

Thanks
JL

jlevi 11-21-2006 05:55 PM

Can we get more photos please guys?
JL

alexz 11-21-2006 10:06 PM

I promise to post photos after install this weekend, HOWEVER i nedd more detailed install instructions (just received the product, thanks for speedy delivery, but it DOESNT come with any instructions)
all right correct if I am wrong:
I unscrew the old bulb, do I leave it hanging by it's wires?
then I insert predator ice
i tap into black and red wires with plastic gizmos
what do I do with extra sets of black/red wires that are coming out of ballasts???
where do I affix ballasts???
sorry for all this "newbie" questions, but I think this product should include basic instructions. I'm good with electronics, but it's hobby, i dont do it everyday! I dont want my money go to waste by installing incorrectly!!!
I'm sure others will agree with me

After "2 min" install, here it is guys, still wish the bulbs were brighter:

alexz 11-29-2006 11:34 PM

when are the 5W bulbs will be available?

cue03 11-30-2006 12:16 AM

I hope we can actually see a picture of the the old vs. the new installed on an X5 so that everyone can see the difference. 30% brighter sound like a big number... I hope it can be seen visually and not just on paper.

Curtis

jlevi 11-30-2006 05:41 PM

jlevi 12-04-2006 03:46 PM

We do not have full headlights but you can install these on your headlights if you have a good mechanic. I'm sure in Saudi Arabia with all of those nice cars there are businesses who specialize in installing :)

You're going to want Predator Chromium, NOT Predator ICE:

Instructions are available upon purchase, but here is a free resource that tells you what's involved:

Thanks JL for your help... it seems very hard to do as I thought I can reach the inside of the headlight using a clip or screw or whatever... this oven thing would be very hard for me to do it...

I can pay if you can prepare two headlights and send them to me ready to install... send me your offer via private message or on [email protected]

Thanks again for your concern

Hi JL, I have been traveling alot and thus jus got back. PIce I bought from you not yet installed. but enclosed are pics of the PIAA which I installed just a few weeks back. Not too satisfied with the brightness. It only looks bright because I took it under complete darkness. I will be installing the PIce today and I am excited. I will post some pics after the install. Leaving my office in a half hour to get them installed.

btw, u mention there is a 5W version out next year. am i entitled to the upgrade? how much is it?

jlevi 12-07-2006 11:53 PM

We'll have an upgrade in January - it will be discounted heavily discounted for return customers.

JL

kvin 12-08-2006 12:01 AM

JL, pics as promised are posted.
i am happy with them. they look brighter than the PIAA.....maybe because they are not as white. But overall I am happy. the new ones due in Jan will be brighter?
I will be interested to upgrade. pls advise when its ready.
heavy discount sounds good........!
cheers!

jlevi 12-08-2006 01:51 PM

4MoJoe 12-20-2006 12:50 PM

I have a 2001 X5, so sounds like Predator Chromium X5 Angel Eyes is the way to go. Do you have to bake these for this model year? Not sure? I have the 3M Xpel coating on my headlamps and I don't want to damage that. Help?!

jlevi 12-20-2006 04:53 PM

You have to bake them, and the 3M should be just fine :) For 2001 X5 you want chromium.

For 2003, I need to know if you have angel eyes or not :(
JL

cue03 12-20-2006 05:40 PM

Jlevi, will there be realistic photos (non doctored) of the new 5W system vs. the existing system. I.e. 3w on one side vs. 5w on the other side or something?

Thanks.

Curtis

Ambrosius 12-20-2006 07:07 PM

For the 2003 x5, it does not currently have angel eyes, so I guess Predator Chromium X5 Angel Eyes would work for me too?

jlevi 12-22-2006 02:09 AM

cue03 - I will take some when 5W comes out!

Ambrosius - Yes, But you can't open the 2003 headlights up, so you'll need 2002 headlights to perform this upgrade.

andy - We posted looking for someone to come over and let us test on their car... nothing yet.

Nick@Jlevi SW 02-06-2007 03:23 PM

Predator Chromium use a CCFL based halo which is different from the LED based Predator ICE system.

My car is 12/2000 made x5 4.4i, just wonder if there will be a fault alert like 'check park light' in dash board if install the CCFL angle light. As I know, the original park light uses 5W electricity, does CCFL also use 5W?

jlevi 02-13-2007 05:18 PM

Shouldn't be any issue, just tell us you have PDC and we'll send you special ballasts.

CCFL isn't 5W, wattage is a measure for bulbs, these are cathodes ;)

JL

There is no bulb, it's LED based.

Baking will more than likely be a problem for you, but if you can get them open, I put angel eyes in for a lot less than $200. Here are the pics I posted a few days ago. You could wire these a drls if you wanted to. I just tied them into my fogs, b/c it was a lot faster and easier.

Why is baking them most likely to be a problem? 2003's are the impossible ones correct? BTW I like your AE's...I may go with your setup!

Thank you, I figured it was worth a shot for how cheap it was, but it could be a prob. b/c hella (the company that makes the headlights) started using the new seal on 10/02 and newer/ Model year 2003 started in aug or sept of 2002, so even if its a 2003 x5 it could have been built in 2002. (like all car companies do)

I have a 2002 (build 10/2001) so I should be able to open them. Anyways, I was hoping to get some some help from JL on this thread...

Any updates on the availability of 5W yet?

Nick@Jlevi SW 07-31-2007 01:48 PM

We have the high output versions available as well. You can purchase the 3W version at 149.99 or the 5w High output for $199.99.

How does your kit compare to Umniza's?

How much is it going to cost for those of us who purchased the 3w from you to upgrade to the 5w?

jlevi 09-04-2007 12:00 AM

We are umnitza's lead retailer.

Not sure on upgrade price yet!

Hi there,

I ordered my PICE about a week or so ago for the X5. I'm just reading through this thread again to see if i've missed something and it seems that I have.

I was one of the group buy with Solkatr on bmwland for the E39 PICE and after that experience I was determined to have the same (or better) look on my E53. The thing that is worrying me now is that you may have sent me a 3w kit.

The website offers only Standard at $149.99 whereas umnitza offer 'high output' at $199.99. I'd have happily paid the $199 if it was on your website. Should I have ordered from Umnitza direct or am I panicing unnecessarily. I didn't want 'true blue' or 'red' . Just high output.

Let me know guys, I'm not so excited about the thing arriving now as I am worrying.

My order
Order Number: 8185

TIA

Kevin.

Whats going on here guys. I hope I'm not getting old stock!

Nick@Jlevi SW 11-16-2007 01:21 PM

Hi Kevin,

There are two versions available, the 3w standard output and 5w high output. At the moment, we only carry the 3w as it is more than a significant upgrade over OEM. Based on customer feedback, we found that most were more than satisfied with the 3w vs. 5w and found the $50 difference to be negligible. You are certainly not getting old stock, just two different versions :D

what is the wiring like? DO any of the wires need to be spliced, cut, or tapped into for it to work correctly? Does anyone have a picture of them installed? I have 2005 4.8is

jlevi 11-19-2007 04:27 AM

You just splice your OEM wires.

Photos on our site :)

Thanks

Mine have just arrived !

So just to be 100% clear on the wiring.

Take the Red (+) Spade connector of the PIce on the left and tap into the Grey/Green - and the Black (-) into one of the browns.

Then take the Red (+) spade connector of the Pice on the right, and tap into the Grey/Blue on the Loom and the Black (-) into one of the browns.

I haven't checked yet, but does the old AE bulb and holder just come away completely and get stored for future re-fit. Are there contacts on the bayonet that no longer get used (ie. when the original wiring runs to).

I'll take plenty of before and after pics. May even get chance to do it tonight if I get a clear reply to the above by then.

Cheers.

Kev.

ps. Now I want to get the fogs and high-beam to match. Can anyone suggest the right bulbs please.

Although my front bumper is facelift - I fitted my old pre-facelift bulbs. What are these? H3 or H11? Same question for the high-beam, though of course these are the facelift bulbs so what do I need to replace them with? Thanks in advance.

jlevi 11-19-2007 04:03 PM

That's correct. The bulb holder is replaced by ours, and the OEM connectors are no longer used.

For high beams and xenons, I suggest our Predator Xenix bulbs :)
