CD changer for X5 with DSP

Hi everyone,

First, I have to say I learn a lot from you guys. amazing site. And I just got my first BMW 2 weeks ago and it is a 04 X5 4.4 with Navigation , DSP, sport and Primeum package.

However, the X doesn't come with CD changer and I got one from my friend as he has no use to it after he installed a Ipod.

After I read the installation instruction from the home page

http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/s...er-bmw-x5.html

the CD changer I got only has the 6pin, 3 pin and coax cable connection outlet. however, from the instruction, if I have DSP, I don't need to connect the 6pin cable to the CD changer but need to connect a single coax digital audio cable.

Now, the only problem is I can't find the single coax digital audio cable from the left side panel in the trunck, Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I think it only has the picture for the CD changer and some drawing for how to mount it with the hardwares. I don't think there are pictures to show where is the coax cable. I can't find my coax cable.:banghead:

You have a 2004, you probably do not need the DSP coax. Try plugging in the 3-pin and 6-pin cables to see if you get audio. If not, you need the DSP cable.

Thanks. I do get music. I am just wondering if the coax cable will give me better sound. is there any reason for why 2004 don't need the coax cable? Thanks

No reason, most 2002+ vehicles use a different type of DSP in which the coax is no longer used. The coax port on your factory amp is not active, there's no need for the cable.

Thanks a lot. I guess I still have a lot needs to learn from you guys.

Now since I am using the 3 pin and the 6pin cable. is it possible I can use this Alpine MP3 CD changer?

Now I know it says won't work with DSP. but it still use the 3 pin and 6 pin cable. I just wonder if it will work with 2002 + BMW even with DSP.

As long as you have analog DSP (like your setup) this will work, but there is no chance of text display. IMHO - this unit was rendered obsolete when the iPod/DICE setups were introduced.
