This is why I say, LEASE your everyday driver.
There are not that many people who want to shell out $51K cash for a used car when they can put down a small deposit and finance one at a better rate through BMW.
Most credit unions don't give great rates as interest has gone up and since dealer incentives to move the vehicles to make room for the new ones are about to start popping up, i'd say, you might be stuck.

You will be able to sell it eventually but this is what you might expect.

Take the KBB trade in value (which you have probably already tried to get a trade on it.) - The dealer has already told you that they don't want your X5 and you should sell it privately, but if you MUST MUST MUST trade it in, they will give you $2000-$2500 south of KBB trade in value because they must wholesale it themselves.

- So you have decided to sell privately and have realized, no one is calling. Since the trade in dealer has only offered you $48.5k to $49K, you know that even selling it at $51K is better than that horrible trade in deal. At least you will get an extra $2K or so, (which still sucks because you probably owe $55k or more on the car and you are "upside down".
So now, it's about minimizing your losses..

Good luck and next time lease. You need not worry about the trade or no one calling to buy your car. You will however have to hold onto it for the duration of the contract. But even then there are ways out of it like www.swapalease.com

Good opin, BLine, but for those of us with zip to "write off", I cannot make
economic sense out of leasing a car. I buy 'em, cash, drive them 5 to 7 years,
sell or trade them in v.good condition and go on to the next one.

And, for those lease/payment buyers, the crunch comes in tossing
a car in the first few years, as you noted. These suckers are not
investments, but high initial depreciating expensive mobile appliances.

The 4.8 is Titz...however, I and, many shoppers, have zip need for
what that V8/low build rate exclusivity offers over the 4.4 or, even
the 3.0. Couple that with the E70 and its resale, private or stlr, is
toast, imo.

Saw/Drove this truck today...

I drove up to Carlsbad this afternoon to see this truck and it is beautiful. I left with the impression that I was going to take it home tomorrow only to later hear that it was sold to someone else. TEAR....:( What a truck!
