Turn Signal Problem

Pardon me if this is on the wrong Forum.
2002 X5 3.0. Turn signal goes from normal to fast flash - but when fast flash - no lights - unless you push on outside plastice lens.
Thoughts? / Thanks

Turn signal problem ????

:dunno: Bulbs are fine. Sockets in good shape, wires fine. I tried to duplicate - would not do. Wife says "well its there". Does anyone know where the turn signal relay is located. I've searched owners manual and rear compartment and are in glove box. For a car where they hide the battery under the spare tire - I cant imagine where this relay is.
Thanks

This indicates that the problem is somewhere within the headlight assembly. Have you checked the contacts inside the socket? Burned out sockets seem to be a fairly common problem with these cars, so it's not unlikely that it's the cause here. If your X is still under warranty, have the dealer replace the socket and see what happens.

Turn Signal Problems

Thanks for advice. X5 is under CPO warranty - which in BMW language means it has to be on its deathbed to service. Do you know where I can find the Turn Signal Relay?

Spent yesterday fixing leaking windshield wiper fluid pumps. One leaking the other froze up. When it rains - it pours.

This could be a problem with your Light Control Module.(LKM) There is no flasher relay as everything to do with lights is controlled by this module. If the bulbs/sockets/connections are OK then have the dealer look for fault codes related to the LKM. He will find them stored in the DASH module not the main module. Seems dealers don't usually look there for codes. A new LKM is covered by CPO.

It's a common problem. The globes have a very fine contact surface against the equivalent of two wires. What happens is with moisture there is a minute amount of corrosion and that affects the contact surface (being so small). When there is no contact the electronics of the car register it as a faulty globe and the fast flash is designed to alert you that there is a fault

There's nothing wrong with the globe usually.

Two alternatives, one being replace the contacts, two being two clean them with light emery paper if you can be bothered.

pushing in on the lens just re-seats the contact....

have a hot day and there is often no problem.

Exactly, my 03' did the same thing about 2 mos ago. Would work sometimes but most the time they didn't. Dealer said the sockets go bad and need to be replaced and is done under warranty.
