Start-up Arlert

Ok something strange is starting to happen when I turn on the car. Every once in a while, there seems to be no pattern, when I start the engine there will be an extra beep/alert and then the 'Range' will show up on the dash. I thought maybe it was because I had a 1/4 tank left, filled up, did it again. I press the check control button, all seems OK. Has anyone had this problem before? Just wanted to see if it something bad, or can I just live with it until the next trip to the dealer? Thanks in advance!

Are there any MID arrows when it happens?

jwilburn 09-17-2006 11:27 AM

MID Arrows? It just says "Range XXX" and thats it.

noncom23 09-17-2006 11:34 AM

Could check to see if memo function is on. Previously posted here as an answer recently.

jwilburn 09-17-2006 11:34 AM

Thanks, Ill look that up!

jwilburn 09-18-2006 12:16 PM

Ok so no memos set, no arrows in the MID. Just "range ###" in the dash for a few seconds and then it goes away. This is really odd.

noncom23 09-18-2006 12:51 PM

Did another search and nobody seems to know what the deal is including their stlrs. Lets keep working on it though. Could also try key reset for ten seconds and startup.

peakpro 09-18-2006 01:55 PM

I still get an occssional three beeps at startup with no warning on the computer.

Its not the time nor the memo function.

Happened twice in a row saturday after not doing it for about a week.

ANd since saturday nothing.

Has me stumped.

noncom23 09-18-2006 02:03 PM

Saw another post that at one minute to the hour on your clock that it will give a warning. Anyone notice this? Probably could be reset.

jwilburn 09-18-2006 02:04 PM

Yeah I keep reading about these 3 beeps. But mine is just one extra. I mean all else seems to be working fine except the rear passenger window will no longer go up with the one-touch. I figured that is just a connection somewhere and should not afect the gas range?

What year is your car? Any chance your battery is on the low side?

Its an '02 4.4i with 44K miles. God I hope its not on its way out. I just got it back from the body shop (hence why the window stopped working). They only worked on the side panels, so shouldnt be near anything fuel related. However I am sure disconnecting the battery had something to do with this.

If I just take it to the dealer and say "I dont know what happened?" it could be taken care of under waranty?

noncom23 09-18-2006 03:38 PM

Read on another board where a low battery can cause something like this.

jwilburn 09-18-2006 03:38 PM

Erf. Thanks, Ill search for that then!

apetrov1x5 01-29-2007 04:45 PM

in my case it happened after i jump started the car, so yes the battery is probably weak. is this connected somehow? and why there was the range displayed?

any one please help. this is not normal

noncom23 01-29-2007 04:46 PM

Yep.Sounds like a low battery.

can you please direct us there? or pot a link from that board. maybe somebody will make the connection. there should be no mystery on my car. it is just a car, and when it beeps, there is an explanation for that. let's find out what it is!

but why would the OBC display the remaining range for a couple of seconds then?

noncom23 01-29-2007 04:57 PM

And you have checked the memo function also?

the memo function is on because i set it on. i need the beeps on the top of the hour.
but before jump starting the car it would not bother me every time i start the car.
i want the beeps every hour, but not every time i start the car.

apetrov1x5 01-29-2007 05:06 PM

the range was never displayed before, even with the memo on. it is something else but what?

jwilburn 01-29-2007 05:44 PM

I took it back into the dealer and they just reset the computer. All fixed, no cost. Didnt take much time at all. Seems to be still working fine now.

That clunking from the lift hatch however....grr....

apetrov1x5 01-29-2007 06:05 PM

computer reset. did you see what they did? can it be done at home? i am sure it is a 2 minute job. going to the dealer for that could be too much.

prgsxr 08-17-2009 01:42 AM

anyone find the answer to this yet having the same issue , no set time doesn't do it every time i start.
tried memo on and off , car starts 3 short beeps and the range flashes ,or if it's set on range already it sometimes flashes the time up

apetrov1x5 10-21-2009 02:25 AM

my battery died soon after that - can you check the state of charge of your battery?
