Tire sizes

I bought a used set of type 69 rims which I want to use with wintertires.
Found a reasonable tire on reifenversand-online.de, the Hankook Icebear W300 255/55R18
But....according to the data on www.xoutpost.com/html.php?file=e53_w.htm my rims measure 8,5 x 18 and according to the dimension data on the Hankook website the rim should measure 8,0 x 18

On the Dunlop site I saw tires which had a "measuring rim" of 8J and a "possible rim" of 7J-9J

Could I use the 8,0 Hankook tires on my 8,5 rims or not?

ELB,
Scratching my head on your question for awhile and doing some web digging:

Tire Rack, a very large, reputable tire seller here in US of A, sells a couple dozen
brands of your oem 18" style 69 wheel, tire in the 255/55R18 size.
In noneof those brands do they offer any concern over a wheel being
8 1/2 inches wide for that tire size. I know I got 40K+ miles out of my eom style 69
wheel with Michelin tires, and while they are now off my car, they could go another year.
So, the 8 1/2" rim concern is moot, imo.

Further digging on Hankook's site shows:

1004680 255/55R18 XL 109V 8.0 7.0-9.0

Which you should note designates: prod #, size & rating, "measuring rim", (a new term to me),
and "rim width range" of 7" to 9".

Thus, if you like that tire, go get 'em on. The fit will not be a prob., imo.

Hi David,

Visited your userpage and it looks like we have the same rims, a set of 69ers and a set of 132's.
The 69ers are presently equipped with Michelin Diamaris summertires 255/55R18 size.
Less than 3mm tread depth so a good time to give them a new set of wintertires.

Looks like I haven't been digging enough on the Hankook site.
I've been looking here and then clicked "Dimension data" next to the Icebear W300.
No mentioning of the rim width range there...
Where did you find it?
Thanks

Ok, found it on hankooktireusa.com
Strange that they don't use the same tables on their European site.
