Looking to buy a Yakima rack for x5 (03)

Need help,

Looking to buy a rack for surfing and snowboarding. Yakima makes the best racks and does anybody have any detailed experience or advice? I did a little research and found 58' cross bars are the best for an x5. Again, need some help. Thanks

58" cross bars would stick out a bit much...at least it did on my Thule. 50" would be too short. 54" would be perfect...does Yakima make such a size?

I dont know if they make 50". I will check it out and get back to you on that.

I got the ones recommended on the Yakima.com site. The 58s are fine, I thought they would stick out to much but they don't. I use mine for bikes and snowboards and like them alot and they look a lot better than the BMW ones.

What attatchments did you use for crossbar? The website suggest the lowrider and the Yakima book suggest a different model.

I use the Lowriders, very easy to install.

If you want to shorten your bars, simply cut them down with a hacksaw to the size you like, then put the end cap back on.

When you used the lowriders did it come with instructions? I am wondering the distace between the lowriders and when I mount my boards it will be level and not look like shit.

They come with instructions. I had same concerns with the racks looking like s**t but they actually look pretty good. They are easy put on and adjust, plus they lock. The bars don't need to be shortened, they don't stick out.

I bought the Thule and I'm very happy with it.
Their criterium bike racks are the best.
