What is this? Almost took it out
 

I was cleaning the X5 interior and I was about to pry this out when I realized it might be part of the dashboard?

are you sure its not the Infrared climate sensor like our my moms old Chrysler Town and Country Limited?

Put your finger over it. It makes a difference.

So what is it then and what is its purpose?

It's purpose is for interior lighting??

My guess is for the nav screen.

Hold your finger over it for a few seconds, the led's and other displays all dim. Take your finger off and they come back up. Of course you have to do this in daylight.
