Upshift to 3rd: strange noise

I've got a strange, soft "ping" noise that happens on upshift to third on my 2004 3.0d.

Steptronic, of course, and I seem to be the only one in the car who can hear it! Dealer is hopeless, so I'm hoping that someone here may have a clue what is happening, and whether it is likely to develop into a problem?
