SG: Possibility 1 - Leak in the a/c system and needs a recharge of R134. Possibility 2 - Some a/c components need to be changed, like the compressor, receiver/dryer, and assorted hoses. I had both problems fixed.

I just got a call from the dealer. He said that the seals at the A/C "service port" were leaking and that I needed new seals and a freon recharge. WD is covering, but they have a $100 per hour labor cap, so my out of pocket is $36.

Good news. I think that was the problem the first time my a/c did as your did. I guess the heat where we live must kill those seals quicker. :dunno:

I also have problem with hot air coming from the passenger side of my X5.

It seems to occur only when my wife is sitting in the passenger seat. :D

What a coincidence we have the same vehicle & same problem.......

LOL, yeah. They had to replace the upper and lower AC service ports "schrader valves" I think they are called. Parts were cheap, but labor was $225. I was covered under my extended warranty. The loss of freon is what causes the warm air to the right vents.
