Cargo Door Noise

My O3 4.6 cargo door was making that usual noise that many complain about.I put the felt pads on the rubber knobs and that did the trick for about 2 weeks. Those knobs are obviously the culprit but does anyone have a fix that would last longer or solve this problem. Thanks

My '02 is at the dealer as we speak, for exactly the same problem. They replaced the bottom adjustable rubber bumpers yesterday and it fixed most of the rattles, but larger bumps and potholes still made it rattle a little. I took it back in this morning to have the top rubber bumpers replaced as well because they seem worn down, too, so we'll see if it eliminates the rattles completely. I asked them to replace both to begin with, but they thought replacing the bottom ones would be enough... Also, they said the bottom bumpers have been re-designed (didn't say when) to make them more effective.

Are those rubber pieces under warranty or do you have to buy them.Another question are they in stock or do you have to order them?

They are covered under warranty, and my dealer did not have them in stock, so they had to be ordered (took about a week).

Just got a call from the dealer, so I thought it was worth updating this thread.

Evidently, the new and improved bottom bumpers/stops have rubber core and are filled with gel (as opposed to the old stops that were solid rubber). The ones they installed yesterday in my X5 have both exploded by the time I brought the car back in this morning, spitting the gel all over the tailgate (I didn't even know since I haven't used the tailgate since picking up the car yesterday).  So much for the new and improved design. Fortunately, they dug up my old stops from trash  and are putting them back in there, along with the new top bumpers/stops (hopefully those haven't been redesigned  ). And there I thought that after today I would be rattle-free once again...

Please keep me updated.................Thanks

They re-installed my old bottom stops and adjusted them all the way up (or so they said). They did not replace the top ones, even though I requested them to do so - they said it wasn't necessary. So far there is no rattle, but I've only driven it for 20 miles give or take. I'll keep an eye on it and see how it does in a week or two; last time they adjusted the stops they only lasted a few days before the rattle was back, so I'm not holding my breath this time either.
