Moisture or dirt? - Fogged up headlamp
2 Attachment(s)
My 2004 X5 4.4i has one diry headlamp. Is it moisture or dirt? It's like this all the time, so I don't think its condenstation, but I'm no expert.
I was reading a thread where sticking a vacuum cleaner into the headlamp for an hour fixed the problem? Where do I stick the vacuum in? Or do I need to open everything up and use Windex on the inside? Any good threads I should read to learn how to open it up? |

If it's minor and it's on the outside, I would try Meguiar's PlastX per the recommedation from one of the forum member. This this thread for more info => http://www.xoutpost.com/detailing-for...ght-lense.html
If it's on the inside, Just take it into the dealer and let them replace it under warranty...you still under 50k miles, right? |
I'm pretty sure it's on the inside. It is not in warranty (> 50k miles). I brought it to a european garage yesterday and he said it can't be fixed. I rolled my eyes.
How do I disassemble the headlights in the 2004? I read only pre-2003 is possible and 2003 is impossible. what about 2004? Thanks, Sammy |
I would try taking the headlight out first. Then remove all the bulbs and let the headlight air for a few hours. You could also try putting a small hoover nozzle inside the light when the bulbs are removed to see if it cleans out any damp air or moisture. Another possible idea would be to get a hair dryer and do the same!

How would I remove the headlights? I really think it's dust on the inside.
Thanks, Sammy |
Have you replaced the hi-beam bulbs or were they replaced in the past? I would check the seal around the bulb first, as this could be the place that air is creaping in and causing moisture.

pardon me for my ignorance but why does his headlights have the word BMW dynamic xenon's written around the projector and mine does not have it :) . Is it because his is the adaptive xenons?
|
What year is yours? If your ride has bi-xenons I would think it would be there.
