Gasoline smell after engine shutoff

Noticeable from the passenger side when I shut off my '01 4.4.

I did have a fuel sensor replaced over the summer, doesn't seem to be a leak anywhere.

Anyone else experience this? I am going to take her back to the shop and have them check their work most likely.

My 2001 3.0 does the same thing; after the gasoline level drops below 3/4 of a tank, the smell goes away. I've asked about this before but I've never gotten a definitive answer.

I have a 2000 X5 4.4, Built date 11/99 66,500 miles- This happened two times within 2-3 week period. I checked the gas cap and retightened - no more gasoline smell. I would notice the smell in the garage in the morning.

Side note - As I parked at work yesterday, my rear left regulator went! The window just dropped!!!. I took it apart -as per x5 world instructions - and am waiting to get the part on Monday. Sucks!

I would have guess the gas cap as well. I don't think you can trust the engine light comming on for lack of pressure becuase I drove home from the cottage (3 hours or so) with the cap off (my bad) and had no warning what so ever. I'd take it to the shop and get it checked.

Not sure if you guys have to have emi tests, but here in Canada we have to go every two years... they test the cap as part of the test.
