"Solution" to window regulators.
1 Attachment(s)
I thought I share with the X5 community my solution to window regulators
|
Looks like a sensible "solution." :D
You are not a true X5 owner until one of your car's window regulators fails. Thankfully, I only had to replace one. Some folks on this board have had to replace three or four. Juan |
I feel your pain. I've been there and done that too. My last broken regulator occured when we were vacationing in Vegas. I used cheap duct tape that I bought from a supermarket to fix the left rear window in the closed position. My X5 sat in the sun for a week in 115 degree Las Vegas heat. The result was the glue on the duct tape baked onto window and door frame. It took an entire day to remove the glue residue.

This is my third regulator - stupid plastic pieces! I bought an extra for the driver's door - just in case!
I figured I am going to spend some time cleaning the tape residue - it's all over! I love my 6 year old x5 - drives like a tank on steroids - but, all of these inconviniences and WTF incidents sure get to me! I have never replaced window regulators or window motors in my 94 325is (180,000 miles)! |
You are not a true X5 owner until you have had the following happen to you:
Besides window regulators, final stage resistor replaced, aux fan replaced x 2, and plastic hooks breaking for the rear sunshades:rolleyes: .....and maybe auto tranny replaced.... Quote:

Got my second window regulator changed on my X last week. Third in the familly as my daughter's 323 got one changed 2 months ago. This has been a weakness of BMW cars for a long time. I am having a hard time understanding why they have not solved this problem by now.

Driver Window Regulator Clip Headache!!
Great seeing all of you X5er's who made it to WestFest IV back in October.
Well, this morning, my Driver's Window went up but it was leaning way forward (i.e. tilting away from the weatherstripping channel immediately to the left of my shoulder. I've just read through the X5 World Article (http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/e...nt-bmw-x5.html ) and another link (http://kordless.blogspot.com/2005/03...ow-repair.html ) both with great pics showing how to access the area in the door and replace or repair/modify the WTF part at the bottom. I'm guessing that one or both of the clips that hold the WTF part to the rail has broken. I won't know for certain until or unless I open it myself. I'm in the process of searching other posts regarding this problem which is apparently common in one form or another. I've been fortunate that it has not happened to me before. A few questions.... Are the plastic clip assembles available themselves as replacement part? If so, where may I research their part numbers. If not, what entire assembly must be purchased? How much are new parts going for? What's the typical cost if repaired at an independent shop? What's the typical cost if repaired at the dealer? Tomorrow's President's Day, so I know what I'll be researching.... At least the window has been working w/o any motor or other noise, but it has always had a bit more glass vibration sound when shut w/ the window in the fully down position. Because the window was tilting forward as it came up, my hunch, after looking at the photos, is that the top clasp on the bottom clip has broken allowing the glass to tilt forward. I welcome all your thoughts and comments!! By the way, we all miss you guys, and Brandin and Dutch say Hi!!! |
ROB!!! Good to "see" you again! How have you been?????
Good luck with your regulators! |
Last week I performed 4th regulators for my 2001 330i. I could do any BMW regulator replacement in my sleep. Took me 30 min.
BMW says that they charge 1.5 hours labor for the rear and 2 hours for the front since they have to disconnect the airbag, come on. If you don't want to get your hands dirty that would be reasonable charge. Good luck. |

Hi Rob! Sorry to hear that you have to spend a day off futzing with that. If it makes you feel any better, I've had all four window regulators go out on the X5. I think I even had one replaced twice. :tsk: |

I've had one window regulator, tranny work and the fan checked twice....yay I'm a real X5'er  |
I've had one window regulator replaced under warranty.
This post should be moved to the main board, not the lounge. |
Knock on wood, I have not had one go out on me yet. I'm sure I just jinxed myself by saying that though
|
I need to check my service contract to see if its covered before it happens...
|
6 window regulators,3 freezing doork locks, final stage, and ive given up on replacing the plastic hooks on the back window shades.

The previous owner was nice enough to have all the window regulators except driver's door replaced by the dealer within a four month period. At $250 a pop. Right before he put it up for sale. I wonder if that is what pushed him over the edge????
|
what makes the window regulators go out so quick??? I have a 05 and was wondering if the window regulator failures is common to the older models or all of the X5s...
|
anyone??
