Is it just me.....
Hello all!
Is it just me or does anyone else wish that you could buy a high end car without being forced to have a sunroof. I do not like sunroofs, never open them, hate getting the interior of my car dusty if it is open, hate the drone noise, miss the structural intergrity lost with such a big whole in the roof, feel claustrophobic due to lowered ceiling height, have to almost break my neck bending it backwards just to seen out of it and have to pay $1,000 plus when I never wanted it in the first place. Have one on the wife's Lexus. She never opens it either. Do have a Miata when I want that totally open feeling that only a true convertible can give. God Bless all who love their sunroofs but don't force me to have to have one just to enjoy owning a great car. Love my X5 without a sunroof. Had to special order to get and missed out on options that are packaged only with sunroofs - Punishment I guess for not running up the sticker price with the sunroof. Had hoped to get the wife a new 3-series. Guess what? I only comes with the sunroof as of 2007-- aarrgh. In any event I do enjoy this forum. Thanks for listening. |
Yeah Cars are usually created for the majority and it seems the majority of people want sunroofs, I never open mine either but I wanted to have it anyways
|
I searched for a while before I purchased my 4.6is WITHOUT sunroof. I just didnt want one, I never used it on any other car I had.
|
I agree that it should be a stand-alone option (as should most options), but I use mine all the time and really enjoy it. I'm also just shy of 5'8" so I'm lucky if I can even touch the ceiling with my hand...
|
I love the sunroof, would not go without.
|
I agree with the unfairness forced options in general. With modern production lines, I can't see why one could not order any car with exactly the options they want if they are willing to wait.
|
I love mine too! I have it open all year round, even with heat cranking if necessary. I agree though, you should have the option NOT to get one.
|
I agree with you about being able to have the freedom of choice of not wanting a regular sunroof. After having had cabrios and now a pano roof on my X5, I'd have to have a gun put against my head to get another car with a standard little "roof-hole".
The good news is that with the excellent way in which the pano roof is designed into the X5, even if you would get one with a pano, you'll likely never face any of the "normal sunroof" drawbacks you mentioned.:) |
I'm just looking at the option list on the pre-facelift and facelift X5's and the sunroof is an option here in the UK/Ireland!!
|
i love my pano sunroof, and so does everyone else who steps foot in my X5. I just wish that the pano went alll the way back, that would be neat. It would give you the feeling of a convertable. However, I do agree that you shouldnt be forced to buy a car with a sunroof.

You should also consider how long you plan on owning the X5. If you want to sell it, say, within 5 years of it being new, then it will sell faster with the sunroof (in the US anyway) as most Americans prefer their luxury vehicles fully equipped.
|
tHERE IS NO structural intergrity lost with it. And as far as the noise goes just keep the cover closed and it is very quiet. I usually leave mine closed all the time and don't even notice it is there.
If it doesn't leak, I don't care that they make u have it... will come in handy for some strange positions ;) |

I am not a big fan of sunroof but the pano is really nice. It lets lots of light in and the ability to vent with the shade close is really nice when I park in the summer. I understand the issue of forced "option" but my guess is that the addtional cost is low and therefore its a profit area for BMW. |
The option to have or have not would be nice.

you can get a 4.6is without a sunroof? :dunno: |
Yeah my 4.6is has no sunroof. Took me a while to find one without though!
|
I like mine but I agree consuemrs should have more choices.
|
I agree options should be just that--options. The pano with vent feature is very good for bleeding cabin heat off when parked at the mall, etc. It's also quite nice when twisting along a canopy road.
Ninjas like pano roofs because there are handy to rappel down through from a helicopter. I personally don't do this because I get bootprints on the back seats. |

50K, should be sold without NAV...thats the only thing that ticks me off about BMW. I see these freakin' $15,000 cars with Nav and PDC and I have a 2004 X5 without either and in 2007, it STILL a freakin' option! WTF?!..I know, Im nuts, but theres no way in hell a 50,000 car should have Nav as a $1200 option..when its standard on a Kia...it doesnt HAVE to have it, but I dont think it should have to be PAID for...  |
