New Yoko's
 

Just replaced my original tires (after 36K miles!), and decided to get Yokohama ADVAN ST tires ($1,254 at Tire Rack) instead of OEM Diamari's. I love the Yoko's more aggressive looks. The handling seems very similar to the OEM Diamari's, and I can't tell any noticeable difference in road noise.

The thread of Toyo tires looks good, yrs is not bad, same as the OEM tire.

However, I heard tt the Japanese Tires can't be much durable for such heavy truck like X5, so I'm worrying about yr Advan tire can't last 36K miles same as Diamaris.

whatz yr ideas in the durability issue, buddies?

Very nice! Keep us updated on how they perform. I'll be needing some next summer.

Curious what the Diamari's looked like after 36K miles. I run the same tires on the same rims and can't seem to get more than about 20K miles on the rears and maybe 26K on the fronts. Rears tend to wear in the center of the tire and on inside shoulder while fronts seem to wear on both shoulders. Alignment is checked'adjusted about every 10 months and I run at the recommended pressure or 32 psi all round.

I was surprised that they lasted that long, too. In fact, they still weren't quite down to the wear bars, and they wore amazingly evenly (no discernible wear patterns at the outside or center) - I probably could have gotten to 40K, but with the rainy season upon us here in Seattle, I didn't want to risk running on "slicks" on wet roads...

So how did I get that many miles? Not sure. I do tend to drive pretty conservatively 90% of the time (not constantly stomping on gas, then brakes), but that doesn't really explain it all. And although I tried to keep proper psi, I really think part of it is the fact that here in Seattle, we drive on wet roads half the year, and supposedly that is easier on tire wear than dry. If I had to guess, I'd say 20K of the total 36K were on wet roads, and the other 16K were on dry (including perhaps half of that on long highway trips).

All in all, I was really happy with the Diamaris. If I hadn't been so attracted to the look of the Yoko's, I'd have gotten the new Michelin Latitudes at Costco - they're all weather, and should (supposedly) last longer than the Diamaris OR Yoko's. But I liked the more aggressive tread on the Yoko's, so that's the route I chose.

Yeah, that seems to make some sense. All my miles are in the Atlanta area where the roads are usually dry, and the road temperature is probably well over 100 degrees 6 monhts of the year. Never really thought about the effect these conditions could have on tire wear.
