Break in Oil change & upgraded transmission software
 

I took my 2006 4.4 in yesterday for an oil and filter change (Break-in period) at 1,600 miles and had them upgrade the transmission software.
(Invoice said: SIB240106-performed EGS)

The transmission shifts much better and no longer picks too high of a gear after slowing down to make turn.

I checked the oil level before I took it to the dealership and it was almost a quart low after only 1,600 miles. I guess they do burn some oil during the break-in period!

I check the oil when it was new (less than 500 miles) and it was down almost a quart. I added oil and it never used any over the next 13,000 miles. My guess is that both your X5 and mine came with low oil levels from the factory.

What dealer? Do you know the software name? Yes my 06' 4.4 was 1qt low at that point. Not a free oil change right?

Yeah, spoke with my SA this am. The v.23 software is in as posted above.
I am scheduled to get this next week. Hoping for good things.

OK, I spoke too soon. The transmission still selects too high of a gear during normal driving. I think the transmission just shifts way to often, probably in an attempt to get better gas mileage.

noncom23, correct...it was not a free oil change but worth the money. Continental Motors in Oceanside, CA only charges $54.00

How did you make out with the transmission software upgrade?

After shifting the transmission manually, I decided that there has to better software out there. I hate that it shifts the second after you take off and always grabs a high gear when slowing down to make a turn.

The sport mode is better, but not optimal for normal non-aggressive driving.

Since the transmission is adaptive, I suggest you pound the throttle more often to get it in its aggressive setting, or stick with Sport mode. For some reason, X5s tend to upshift early unless you really pound it. Everytime I hear an X5 accelerate it upshifts the second after it gets going....

(X3 is totally opposite; tends to upshift too late and holds gears far too long on small uphills unless you get the fix):nanana:

Yes I was going to post this later after I had more time with car. Got the v.23 tranny upgrade yesterday. I feel about a 50% improvement in response at this point. Agree more aggressive driving is necessary for adaptive gear to help with the change.
Gear choices are better, but really havn't driven it enough yet to tell. And yes I would prefer a Dinan upgrade, but again, they are not ready. My SA, who I drive open wheel cars with, so he knows, rec. throttle body first.
Also exhaust change out to follow. They had one a the stlr and it is a hot car. FWIW.:thumbup:
