Is $375 a good deal on a brand new 4.8is bumper?

I found a brand new 2005 4.8is Front bumper primed with PDC cut-outs. The guy told me that they want $375 for it. I see that realoem shows the list price as $820! Sounds like a deal to me?!

Since my X5 is completely silver, including the black trim, do you think it will look odd if I leave the plastic black in between the silver top and bottom portions of the 4.8 bumper? Or should I paint the entire 4.8 bumper silver. I really didn't plan on adding the rear and front spoilers and rear flares when I started painting the trim. And I like the look of the 4.8 front bumper with the two contrasting colors.

I think it will look odd.

LeMansX5 10-14-2006 01:26 PM

I would keep it OEM style.

Don Coffey 10-14-2006 01:33 PM

I also think it would look odd given the rest of the car being silver. Get the whole bumper painted. IMO.

AutoXer 10-14-2006 01:35 PM

Hey, great price! I would keep it OEM color scheme too. Can you let me know how they ship the bumper for $75 when you get it? I have been wanting to ship a bumper to the east coast and the best quote I got was for $200!

Estroil 4.8is 10-14-2006 02:24 PM

I've shipped bumpers before. I just wrapped in in some bubble wrap. Then put it in a large box and fill the voids with some cardboard to help it from moving. I'd think no more then $100 including packing. Although I get the cardboard from work for free.

AutoXer 10-14-2006 02:42 PM

The problem is that the X5 bumper is bigger than the normal size bumper because it includes the front spoiler. So Fed-X and UPS all consider it freight shipping and charges lots of $$$$'s for it.

Estroil 4.8is 10-14-2006 02:46 PM

True. I've only shipped car bumper. Maybe the shipping for the front bumper was worked into the buy it now price although the bumper was cheap even without shipping....

TQ2K 10-14-2006 04:05 PM

Wow what a great deal!!! And yes, you should paint everything silver since it'll look odd leaving out the black part when it's on your Silver X5. It'll also be easier to paint since they won't have to tape out the black part, should cost less from a labor perspective.

Estroil 4.8is 10-14-2006 04:31 PM

Ok here is a side by side comparison. Thanks to sedoy for the photoshop:thumbup: . Also TQ2K I hope it was ok to use your pics?:)

Totally fine with me... Also good to see how an all Alpine White X5 with the 4.8 bumper looks like.... Good thing I didn't paint mine all white... Still nice to have that contrast...

AutoXer 10-14-2006 07:03 PM

I like the contrast. But I am bias too because that's the setup I have. But I think because your flares and other parts are all painted silver, I would do the same with the bumper. Check out my X page for photos:

Try DHL. I got two whole bumpers shipped for under $100.

Agreed the contrast is nice. Love the look of your X, Boxter and of course the Ferrari, WOW!! I've got sometime to figure what to do. I plan on having everything installed in the spring.

Thanks, that's a long time from now. I have seen other silver X's with all the trims painted and it doesn't look bad either.

You might have better luck with these guys this time. I bought the same bumper from them 3 months ago at $269 plus $69 shipping, but they didn't deliver. I waited 6 weeks, sent emails, called 3 times, and every time they told me "it's not in stock at this time". I finally asked for a refund and bought from the dealer. The parts manager heavily discount it for me, but it still came out $500 plus change.

terence 10-17-2006 06:11 AM

4.8is bumper won't fit on a x5 of year 2000!!!!
U need to hv other parts out of $375 much in order to hv the facelifted look!
Budget is the key issue to consider if u take this bumper to not

Yes. I understand that. I have already started getting all the face-lift parts needed. Thanks for the look out though.

Great! I guess I will have to keep on these guys. They got right back to me when I asked if they could get any fenders or a hood. I'll cross my fingers and hope everything works out.

Since you already have all of the trim painted, you should check out the AC Schnitzer kit (you would only need front & rear bumper covers), IMO it looks awesome with everything painted the same color (and I generally prefer the contrast of the oem black plastic). When it comes to painted trim I would go with the ACS, I like the 4.8 in its oem form, but thats just my .02, in the end do what you like you will be driving it afterall.

Agreed that is nice looking but how much will that bad boy set me back?

Estroil 4.8is 10-21-2006 07:52 AM

YEAH!!! I just got my tracking number. It will be here on the 24th of October!! Lets just hope it's the right bumper inside the box.
