low pitch whine from auxiliary water pump 02 4.6is
This noise is driving me nuts. It goes away when you turn the fan/heater off, and is right back again when you turn the fan on. The first dealer I took it to told me it was the pump and said they had replaced it - noise still there. The second dealer I took it to told me it's the pump and that all X5s have this noise and there is nothing that can be done. I call BS. Anyone else notice a low pitched whine that goes some high to low and is constant in their X5?

Is it throttle related?

It happens to me also. I was told by the dealer they all do it and even his own M5 does it. I turned my heat on for the first time of the year the other day, heard that noise and turned the heat right back off. I put the heated seat on instead...............

I have the exact same noise but it has nothing to do with the heater. The whine noise goes away as soon as you turn the fan motor off.I have asked this forum about this noise before but not many people responded. My dealer also said its normal but that does not seem right. Please keep me updated on what you do or find out.

Sorry David - couldn't resist. |
I knew that was coming :D Just don't want to be snowed by yet another dealer :) You're in for it now, however!

A little late to the party, but I have this noise also. I am not sure what it is but it is truely annoying. Would love to know if anyone found a fix from their dealer. My dealer said it is normal. i sat in 3 other 4.8is vehicles today and NONE exhibited the noise that I have in my 4.8is.

I just had the fan blower motor replaced because of a similar noise in my '06 4.8 (only 2 months old). I made the shop (Crevier BMW) foreman ride along to hear the noise. I thought it sounded like a bad bearing. They took the dash apart and found that the motor did have a bad bearing which would seem to explain the whining noise when the fan was on, and lack of noise when off. So far no more noise.

Is it possible that all of our cars with this noise have bad bearings. This does not seem right.
