Hitch installed in 4.8is
I finally took the plunge on Sunday and ripped my 05 4.8 apart to install the hitch.
I was extremely intimidated and almost quit about 5 minutes in as I could not get the brass T55 bolts out. After no time I had the bumper off and was dropping hte exhaust. It took about 6 hours, but I think if I did it again I could get it done in under 4. I did not have help...so it can be done solo. 2 Questions... 1.)I could not locate my tork wrench in the middle of the job so I just hand tightened. I think it is pretty close to 55ftlbs, but should I retighten everything with a tork wrench before I pull? 2.)Which bolts/nuts allow me to adjust the height of the bumper? I would like to bring it up 1/4 of an inch or so, but could not seem to move it up any further. Thanks, Tom |
forgot another question...
Is there a trim piece similar to those around the exhaust that finishes the hole around the receiver any better. It seems like the trim around the receiver does not look that "finished".
Thanks, Tom |
at this point i would retighten the bolts with the torque wrench. do not loosen them, just set the torque wrench and tighten till it clicks.
it would have been better if you initially used loc-tite on the bolts if you didn't have a torque wrench handy given their high stretch settings required... there is no trim around the receiver for US based models. |
do most people use loctite?
I did not read anywhere about loctite in the DIYs or the OEM instructions.
Should I be worried about anything having not used a Tork Wrench? Thanks again, Tom |
