Cost of new front outer CV Boots?
Just noticed that both the outer driver and passenger side CV boots are torn on my 2002 4.4. I just checked them a few weeks ago and they were okay. Must have just happened. Before I start calling around I was wondering what kind of price to fix would be acceptable. My boots both have a small tear in them and very little grease has been thrown out, so I know the bearings are probably fine. I guess I am looking at a boot replacement and nothing more. I don't have the time or tools to do a DIY. So I am wondering what people have paid to have this done at the dealer and independent shops. Don't want to get baboozled so I guess its best to know what the going price is before I start calling around.
Any input will be greatly appreciated. Mark |
my local dealer quoted me 450 per side. an independent shop should be considerably less (maybe half)

Roughly $40 for parts plus 2 hours labor per side. I paid less than $300 total.

What is the difference between the outer and inner cv boots? just curious...
I have to get mine changed as well. dealer quoted 825 parts and labor one independent shop quoted 748 parts and labor another independent shop quoted 640 parts and labor I've been told it's a pretty labor intensive job, which is why it's as costly as it is. |
Just paid $615 for 1 outer at Dealer...

Just got a pair of outer cv boots at the dealer and they were $35.95 + tax each at New Century BMW at Alhambra.
Labor, now that's another question because no way I will have it done there at the dealer. :nanana: |
erhard BMW in bloomfield michigan done my $715 for both side left and right

wow pretty pricey but also not surprising that it was that much.. but yea my driver side outer cv boot torn in half and i had a friend change it for me.. saved me lots but then i also work at a subee dealership.. which helps me tremendously with tools and being able to use the lift at work...

good perks you have there 1badassx5...maybe if i had the lift and all the tools then i'd be brave enough to do all these DIY on this forum as well
 |
600.00 for all 4 boots

I've got a 2001 X5 and during a routine car wash noticed a ton of grease inside my normally clean rims. Called my local dealer here in Texas (Classic BMW) and they wanted between $600-$800 to fix it. Quite a variance in pricing if you ask me. And that's one, I said one torn boot.
Stopped by an independent shop and spoke at length as to what my repair expectations were. As with a similar experience above, I paid about $40 for the OEM part and $200 in labor. I've found that it pays to shop around and ask questions. By the by, I'm new to this board and just love what I've ingested thus far. I know you mentioned that you have no desire to tackle the repair yourself (nor did I) but I must give a huge  to the DIY articles on X5Wolrd.com. Extremely well presented. Good luck! |
