Anyone interested in a 4.8 X5 engine with 635 miles?
yes! 635 miles from a 2005. purchased from insurance company
Anything wrong with the engine?
I am only selling it because I can't transplant in into my 545i as I was previously told. The emissions setup is COMPLETELY different. Purchased from an insurance company.
no one is interested? I'll take the first decent offer!
lets see some pics
How much did you purchase it for?

I wonder how easy it would be to transplant into a 3.0d? If it's even possible. Don |
I might have overpaid for it ($6500).. maybe not... (ask around....) but after 4-5 months of research.. I decided that it would have required too much surgery and zillions $$$ in labor @$65/hour to make it fit my 04 545i. There are considerable diffferences in the emission setup between the X5 4.8 and the 5 series. Again. I mentionned DECENT offer.. I would otherwise hold on to it and find eventually a wrecked X5 or theft recovered... eventually. :)

That is one nice looking engine!!
only 635 miles.. :).
Did I scare you guys away?
I think a venue such as EBay may be your best bet.
Good luck with the sale! |
Sup Abdoul it's Tij!
How hard would it be to transplant it into my 4.4? |
Hi... Tij how goes it? I was told it would be straight forward as emissions setup etc.. would be the same. There MAY be some issues with upgrading your ECU but then again, I was told maybe not. Frankly I do not know. I only researched it through VOB and Tischer BMW shop foremen.. but everyone seems to think it would not be a headache..as it is done by factory with the same parts... :).
cheers, |
I'll talk to Thaddeus once he's back and see from there! How is the family?
I would wonder if it would be worth the expense of upgrading a 2001 4.4. If the engine costs you $6,500 and installation costs $3,500 you have just put $10,000 into a five year old X5. Any future buyers of the vehicle may be leary of it due to the fact that a 2001 4.8 did not exist and that is somewhat of a "Franken X5". If you figure the 2001 X5 is worth even somewhere in the low 20's I would wonder if with the engine anyone would want to pay $30,000 for it.
I would sell the 4.4 and buy a 4.6 if you want the additional power. Or buy the Dinan supercharger and now you have a Dinan BMW that would certainly have some value to it. I would think this engine would be best for someone with an interesting project needing an engine say a kit car or a boat. Abdoul, I do not mean to put the brakes on the sale of your engine. It seems to be a really nice item but I question the value of upgrading a 4.4 to a 4.8. |
kit car?
Did not think of that!!! Now that's a great idea!. I mean it.. I'd love to take this idea further... that would be a fun project..... and I looove trouble!
any ideas? |
You ever sell that motor? I might be interested...!
I still have it.. Haven't found a donor car/X5 yet.
What!!!! Putting that engine in a 4.4i would be perfect. Not only are you getting a brand new engine, you just have upgraded your X to a 4.8. I don't know what everyone else is talking about, but 10k if that, to have a brand new engine and if you think about it, its like having a brand new X, minus suspension and tranny.... I would def. like doing something like this. I've got the mechanic and can do an engine swap for less then 3k...All together, maybe 6k for engine, and 2k for labor, 8k in total for a brand new setup. If I had the money, I'd do this right now...
so i am guessing a 4.8 engine wont fit a pre '03 x5 because of the transmission.
Okay, does anyone know if e39 M5 drivetrain could be retrofitted onto the e53 with 4.8 engine in it???? I've been thinkin' about swap, but keeping manual is a must 8-]
Let us know how you get the M5 transmission lined up to the transfer case.
So are you interested in selling it? I have an X5 that needs a motor pretty soon. By the way... where did it come from?
Sorry abdoul;
You must post your item for sale in this forum. http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-items...tems-sale.html You must have premier membership to sell anything on x5World. Quote:

Maybe there's no drivetrain to handle high horse power along with keeping x-drive, and these "monsters" are simply stripped down to RWD...???? This is just a guess but I'd realy like to know how they do it, |

The tough part is the electronics. BMW could easily turn off everything (dsc, abs, etc) except the ECU. That's a bit harder and less practical for you. |
i would love to see this happen astroboy....give the details on where you are getting your research from.

Wonder if it would bolt up to an 06 with a man trans? I would've got the 4.8 if they offered it with the manual but I had to go with the 3.0 to get the manual. Anybody know if it would work?
Yep your right........

I spent about 3 months this year working to put a V8 M5 motor (2003) into my X5... I designed a ton of parts to make it fit. After all that work, I got the total bill, which was almost $40K (from the machine shop which I personally own). We decided against it since it was so expensive. These transplant projects are very difficult... although there are tuners that make some of the parts to do it. G-Power, in particular, makes a lot of the parts needed to do engine swaps for many of the BMWs. They even make stroker motor packages for those who want to stick with the same block, but want a bit of extra fun. Check them out, but be warned... like anything that touches the BMW name... its expensive! :smackass: |
Have you sold the engine? I'm interested in it? I've got a 4.4 in Moscow - I wonder if a swap is possible and I know that I'll have to replace transmission - is it possible to find a used 4.8 tranny to install it together with your engine?
