weird parking issue
Hi,
When i park my X I use the handbrake as well. Anyway, recently this issue appeared: After i step on the brake, throw the shifter into park, pull my handbrake, I release the brake. At this point you expect the car to nudge back or forth a little bit (depending on uphill/downhill). However now after the nudge, my entire care jolts even harder. This never happened before. Any ideas? |
i can relate
i had the exact same problem with my 2006 X5 3.0i! After i put it in park and pulled the handbrake, the X would jerk forward and back a bit. this problem got worse and worse and my dad finally took the X back to the dealer for service since its under warrenty. take it to the dealer and have them fix it.

You likely need your hand brake adjusted. It's not fully engaging when you pull the handle. You can test this by putting your car in neutral on a slope and applying the handbrake. If it still rolls you need the handbrake adjusted and/or you need new shoes.

I would also suggest putting the brake on before you put in park.

What i always do is put the car in N then pull the handbrake so that if i let go of the brake it doesnt move then i put it into park! i have to park on a hill and my moms trucks tranny died bc she refused to belive that using the hand brake was benefial. every time she put it into R there was a loud clunk. and a jolt but eversince i told her to use my method no sound at all and it is easier to shift into R.
