My latest mods--metal rear wiper replacement & extra storage box
4 Attachment(s)
Back in 2001, I thought it was funny that BMWs in Europe would get first aid kits (because it is required in Germany) but BMWs in the U.S. didn't. My Mercedes came with a first aid box and my parents' Mercedes always came with a first aid kit.
Fortunately, you could buy the same first aid kit box & items. I think I got the OEM First Aid Kit box from Maximillian Imports back in 2001 and installed it in the X5's passenger seat. Other people have bought the box by itself to use it as extra storage space. One of the X5World member even used one to put his iPod and DICE connector there under the driver's seat. Anyhow, I got another First Aid kit box for the M3 and extra boxes for storage underneath the driver's seat for the M3 & X5 from www.leatherz.com Both the M3 and X5 seats are made by Lear and apparently the box is made to fit there because there are pre-drilled holes there. Also, I wanted to use the Bosch Icon wipers. For the rear wipers, I got Bosch 418A but I heard you could also get 418B (both are 18" in length). Since I have a 2001 X5, I had the "plastic" wiper arm. To get the best connection, I ordered a replacement METAL rear wiper arm and round cover. I ordered it from Crevier BMW and props to Joe@Crevier for bringing that part to West Fest IV!:) part#61-62-7-068-076 rear metal wiper arm part#61-62-7-113-603 cover The wiper arm is held by a 13mm nut. You can use your 13mm wrench in your BMW X5's tool kit to remove the nut and replace the wiper arm. With the new metal wiper arm, the wiper arm is nice and new and shiny black and will work better. Installed the Bosch 418A wipers on the new arm and Voila! |
Nice work!! How much did the wiper arm and cover cost? I wanna change my metal wiper arm as well because it has quite a few scratches from hitting the top of my garage.

the bosch icons simply fixed my long time screatching and scratching of drivers side windshield.
stock wipers, kept adjusting them and in couple days it'd start again, even left scratch mark on the windshield from the plastic piece touching it all the time. ever since i put icons all around, no more noise, no more scratching, and they give the car a more updated look. |
Very nice Kewl. My rear wiper arm is pretty beaten up so it might be time for a change.

Will PM you, but are you going to wait till WestFest V for Joe or I to install the updated metal rear wiper arm....
