Has the +2002 Range Rover uses the same auto gearbox X5 use???

I ask this because a friend of mine has a 2002 Range Rover TD6 (same engine as X5 3.0D, 185hp) with a broken auto gearbox at 130.000Km  on the clock. He his shocked, and dealer wants 10.000 euros to fix it with a remanufacter unit.

So if this car uses the same gearbox of the X5 3.0L or 3.0D I will try to help him find a used auto gearbox for his car. Anybody here knows if the gearbox is the same? Thnaks in advance.

The auto tranny (and maybe even the engine) are the same as the X5 I believe. However, I question just taking an automatic off an X5 and assuming everything lines up in a Range Rover. I may be wrong though.

And yes, automatics are expensive, but I've read (for BMWs at least) it's better to use the dealer in this case. I don't know/haven't read about any successes using a random aftermarket installer for the automatic.

J7 - check out this website. Lots of LR and RR info. There is also an owners forum.
