Did you already upgrade your radio module to a 2003 or newer?
|
No, no upgrades whatsoever
|
Do you know the production date of your X5? As far as I know, all 2002 and before cannot use the aux input kit. The radio module (which is under your spare tire) will not recognize it. You have to install a 2003 or newer radio module in order to get AUX functionality. You also pick up the ability to add Sirius Radio too, with the newer radio modules.
There is a ton on info here regarding aux input. |
Meant to also ask why you need aux? There may be other ways to do whatever it is you are trying to do. For example, a DICE kit will plug right in and give you IPOD and aux capability, with no need to upgrade the radio module. There are other solutions as well.

Yeah my prod date is 9/02. I did not know about the radio module on 03+ until now. Main reason why I wanted the BMW aux input is due to its lower price compared to dice while having the same sound quality. Depending on the price of a radio module, I'll see if the BMW aux kit still comes out cheaper than the dice.

A new radio module will cost around $430 plus $36 for the aux kit. Might be able to find a used radio on ebay though. A Dice kit on the other hand, would be $149 and you wouldn't need the BMW Aux kit. Good luck whatever you decide.
