Check brake linings light came on...how much to expect for repairs?

Does that mean I need to replace my brakes, rotors, & sensors? I think it's my front brakes but how can I tell?
How much should I expect to pay at a dealer for the complete brake job?
Would it be smarter to purchase the parts myself through a discount BMW dealer(any suggestions on a dealer) and have a non-BMW dealer who specializes in BMWs do the work?
Any advice and input would be appreciated. :)

Your SAV profile says that you have a 2004. It should still be under the 4yr/50K mi maintenance period, so take it to any BMW dealer and they should diagnose and repair any brake problems for no charge to you.

That would be great as I'm still under warranty, but from what I understand, the brakes are not covered under warranty.

Warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship, not wear items.

Maintenance plan covers wear items, although it differs by country. For example, in Canada we get planned maintenance items (oil, filters, etc) but not the full maintenance plan unless we pay extra. In the USA (your profile shows you are in the USA) you have the full maintenance plan included as standard, as long as you are not over the time and distance limits.

BMW also includes a 4yr/50k mile maintenance warranty. Go to the dealer- You won't be charged a $.01 .

yup... just had the brakes done on my '03 this past Wednesday. FYI - it's about a $1,500 process for both front and rear (700 - 750 a piece). Warranty covers maintenance items such as wear and tear. I have my brakes replaced (which yes, includes rotors and sensors) and I occasionally have my windshield wiper blades replaced... all free of charge :)

Awesome! That's good to know...I'm learning...I figured the brakes would be considered "normal wear" items and not covered. Thanks! :)

FYI though... I did a lot of reading before I knew for certain how the phone call would go with the dealer and decided to do this repair as a DIY if it wasn't covered. So, when your warranty does end and those costly replacements are yours to pocket it's a few hundered in parts and an afternoon of work. Totatlly a DIY'able project. There are some great guides on here too. Good Luck!
