Maui Idiots!

2 Attachment(s)
Went to see a client whose home was located in a cul-de-sac. There were no cars parked outside when I drove in. I was the only car parked outside. After an hour, I came out to find a VW parked in front of the X5, with its rear bumper almost attached to my front bumper. Note: there were still no other cars in this large cul-de-sac, just the "f.....g " (excuse the expletive) Volkswagen kissed-ass with my X5 as per the picture.

So I started taking pictures when I noticed the VW owner was still in his car so I immediately tapped his window and asked him to come out. He's an elderly guy (found out later that he was 85) so I told him he may have damaged my car and also asked why he parked so close to mine when the whole cul-de-sac is car-free. His reply - because I parked in front of his house! Took a deep breath as I was about to become mouthy and ugly when I realized that this guy looked familiar and then I remembered that I met him 15 years ago and more importantly he is also my neighbor's dad! So I cooled off quickly even though I still managed to tell him he was an asshole which he quickly replied that I should have parked in front of the house that I visited to begin with. Go figure.

Well, as it turned out, there was no damage, just some dirt scratches from both our dirty bumpers. Moral of the story: It doesn't matter how or where you park your X5, there are idiots everywhere:rofl:

unreal, glad to see the x is ok though!

streetsoffire 11-25-2006 04:12 PM

That is too funny....... that old coot actually put his bumper on you with ample spots open. I wonder what he would have done had He found my 96 Landcruiser with ARB Bull Bar and cakes of mud in the spot your X was in?

cmyX6go 11-25-2006 04:16 PM

Cranky old man did it on purpose and thought he was 100% justified. People think they get street rights when they buy a house. Fueds have started due to someone parking in front of someone else's house. Glad the X is OK.
I guess Lambeau's wilderness has its perks after all.

AutoXer 11-25-2006 04:16 PM

Yep, some people just can't drive or park. Reminds me of the time when someone rear ends me and tried to get away. And when I caught up with her, she said this is San Francisco, things like this happens all the time! Glad that there was no damage.

Aimster 11-25-2006 04:59 PM

glad to see your baby is ok

JonK 11-25-2006 05:00 PM

Ed,
That oldman has no business having a carkey in his hands.
I wouldn't want to share a road with that guy for sure.

(I'll look you up when I am ready to buy a property in Maui...)

PersonaNonGrata 11-25-2006 06:01 PM

Sorry to hear about the frustration but at least there was no damage. I'll have to watch out for an 85 year old geezer in a silver Passat weaving all over the road when I'm there.

It could be worse. Just one of many examples of elderly drivers who are dangerous. :tsk:

Man accidentally drives car into closed barbershop

CATHEDRAL CITY -- An 84-year-old man who said he was looking for a place to get a haircut Thursday drove his car into a barbershop, police said.

Sol Parsow of Rancho Mirage meant to step on the brake but instead hit the accelerator while trying to park in front of Denny's Barbershop in the 35-400 block of Date Palm Drive in Cathedral City, according to a news release from the Cathedral City Police Department.

Police were called to the scene about 9:40 a.m. and found Parsow's 2000 Lincoln had plowed into the barbershop, which was closed for Thanksgiving, and done extensive damage to the interior, the release said.

Parsow was not injured, and police said alcohol did not appear to be a factor. The accident investigation was continuing Thursday.

There are individuals like that who don't want cars parked in front or side of their property when you're visiting someone else...

Good to know there's no damage to the X5...

Quicksilver 11-25-2006 08:23 PM

Yeah and some of them live in my neighborhood.

Ecko 11-25-2006 08:54 PM

I still would have :slap: his crusty old ass:thumbup:

People just suck. Back when I had the X5, someone bashed in the panel above the rear wheel in a parking lot and just left... That's so stupid. Someone bashed our Volvo in the parking lot of Target with a huge Ram 2500.. The woman waited around for an hour for my mom to finish her shopping though, and she offered to pay for all the damages (New fender, hood, bumper, and $850 Xenon headlight).. My best friend's mom drives a Jaguar X-type and a brand new 530xi WITH PDC backed into her in the parking lot of Dunkin Donuts. The woman waited though... Her bumper actually popped off, and the Jag just had a huge scratch.

I understand your feelings about this issue. However cut this guy some slack.

At his age maybe a parking place is all he has left that's important in his life. Sure it may not be right but wait till you get to be his age and perhaps you will understand. No damage correct? Then why not stroke the guy and apologize and explain that you were not aware this spot was important to him and that you will try to respect his wishes in the future.

From where i stand it's a small thing to endure from someone we should show respect for anyway. Just my 2 cents.

Ed...just left there once again (worked the Maui Invitational for ESPN) but am coming back on Dec 31st...we should hook up then.

I got stuck on the westside during the fire on the Pali in late AUG and had to drive around the northside to get to the airport because the highway was shutdown for 2 days.

fangbosun 11-26-2006 04:16 AM

Who would have a problem with a nice X5 parked outside their house! I once parked my Alfa in a near empty carpark nowhere near the store entrance to find a piece of crap Ford Falcon parked 6 inches from me!!!!

Quicksilver 11-26-2006 01:42 PM

Neurotic people with possessive issues.

I have never understood the F'ers that think visitors cant part in front of their house. They may own the house but they dont own the parking in front of it. I make it a point to aggrivate people like that.

Quicksilver 11-26-2006 02:02 PM

No need to understand it and no need to waste the time or the energy aggrivating them. Just enjoy the show. ;)

Making such points are great, but I worry they take out their frustration on my car.

But objectively speaking, I saw the pics above and I'd be pissed if someone parked so close to me (it appeared as if the two bumpers were actually touching!). I mean, its not clever or a laughing matter i think.

Actually, one of the nicest things about living in the middle east is not having any assigned/specific parking areas you can put your car almost anywhere. The bonus of owning a X5 is pretty much climbing on top of pavements and parking it there were no other car can come close ;)

Apologies not required and I have no ill feelings towards this guy.

The truth is, he is quite well off financially but a cheapskate. That's why he drives a VW instead of a BMW. He is a retired Real Estate Broker in Maui and his son (also a Realtor and my neighbor) has taken over the business and also doing very well.

Talking to other older Realtors at the office, they told me that this guy was a miserable guy to deal with in his active years and everyone advised me that I should have told this guy to f-off, to his face! Talk about nasty people.... I actually had a short chat with him about Real Estate before I left and even told him that he is getting miserable in his old age. (little did I know that he already had that brand in his younger years!)

I will be going back there a few times during the next few weeks, this time in my Dakota Pick up truck, so guess where I will park? RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIS HOUSE :nanana:

If my math is right, my front bumper should be way above his rear bumper if he tries to pull that crap again!

Why waste the energy?:dunno: Seems to me he's got cha going and your playing right into his hands. He's using you to his advantage, getting you to act a certain way:nanana: If he's like you say he is your not gonna gain a thing. Your just gonna give him more energy then he deserves.;) But thats just my 1/2 a cent.

Scottie 11-27-2006 05:24 AM

If the culd de sac was empty. Why did you park in front of his drive.????

I'm sorry but on this one I kinda agree with the guy.:)

Could be argued that your as big a asshole as him to be fair it could couldn't it.??
