What else for the body?

I have a 4.6is that I've been attempting to black out. I've powder coated all rims, added colored roundels to match my enterior color, did a shadow/blackout to all of my rear lights, and I just placed an order for a black shadow grille. Any ideas on what else I could do or if there is anything else? On that note, what else can you do in the interior? I have the Imola red checkered suede option...

:iagree: Where's the pix? Let's see that black and red beauty.

If you have the aluminum dash trim installed, you can always have it power-coated black. Strangely enough, we have another Imola Red X5 owner with a trim fetish - albeit titanium instead of black. Maybe he'll see this thread and come out of hiding.

Sunil - who's X is that?

MatzoBallsX5 11-26-2006 02:24 AM

I've seen another X5 just like mine in Newport Beach that has that same body kit. I love the way mine looks without the added body bit. How can I add pictures on this site so you can see my interior and full exterior? I still haven't installed the new shadow black grille...

MatzoBallsX5 11-26-2006 02:46 AM

Any idea how to go about finding a place that can powder coat the aluminum dash on the inside?

asawadude 11-26-2006 03:32 AM

To upload your pictures, make sure each picture is sized no more than the following limits - 1400 pixels x 1400 pixels, 341.8 KB file size. Click on the advance button underneath the message editing screen. You'll see a paper clip on the top menu. Click on that, and a second window will open up. You'll see 8 boxes to enter the file location and names of the pictures to upload.

Here's 2 Orange County based powder coating companies; both do small jobs:

Ok, finally figured it all out, thanks for the help. This is my X5, I haven't installed the shadow black grille yet. When I do, I'll put pictures up of it.

Dblock2151 11-26-2006 06:55 AM

Be sure to lower it when you get a chance.

If you lower the X5, is there any real conflict with the tires? The Imola X5 you posted is actually a 4.6is, not a 4.8is.

Estroil 4.8is 11-26-2006 03:37 PM

An inch or two will not hurt anything. Dealer can do it in a few minutes.

Nope, its a 4.8is, as I know the owner. Don't go by the wheels. He changed the wheels from style 168 to style 87 right after he bought. Also notice the facelift headlights.
No conflict with tires on lowering. Several here have lowered. Here are before and after pics

Beautiful 4.8is !!!

MatzoBallsX5 11-26-2006 06:34 PM

You got me there, I thought that was a 4.6is because of the wheels.

MatzoBallsX5 11-26-2006 06:36 PM

Any idea how much it costs to lower the X5 a couple of inches? I didn't know the dealer can actually do it for you, I would have thought otherwise.

mrkbbd 11-26-2006 07:23 PM

they'll probably charge an hour of labor

MatzoBallsX5 11-26-2006 07:45 PM

Thanks for the ideas. I'm going to look into powder coating some pieces in the interior and also lowering the entire vehicle. Is there any real benefit to lowering the vehicle? Does it void the warranty on the vehicle at all?

You'll need the dealer to lower the rear air suspension, so you can ask them the impact to warranty at the time the drop is performed. It should not void the warranty but your mileage may vary from dealer to dealer. Some may not cover any suspension issues while all other non-affected parts will remain covered; other dealers will not let the lowered suspension alter warranty coverage.

Eurosport 11-27-2006 05:41 AM

87's don't look that good on facelifted model
he should have kept the 168's but i know i know everyone got their own taste

EKS PYB 11-27-2006 12:22 PM

I agree with Eurosport...but then again, both rims do look good on it. VERY NICE !!!!

nupe10123 11-27-2006 12:55 PM

What's the point (advantages) of lowering?

MatzoBallsX5 11-28-2006 03:17 AM

I can't seem to find any advantages or disadvantages to lowering the car. The advantage for me is the look, I think it looks great when it's lowered a bit. But lowering the X5 can void the warranty, don't know what else.

That one belongs to andaya. He has some more pics on his personal page linked in his member profile. He has done lots of stuff to it. I saw it, and heard it, in person at WestFest IV.

MatzoBallsX5 11-28-2006 04:29 PM

I went to a tint shop that's known fairly well in SoCal to tint my brake lights. They did a great job. They even managed to tint the one that's above the rear wiper, although that took a little extra time because of the area. They had to take out the entire light in order to tint them, just to make sure that it couldn't be pryed out afterwards.

MatzoBallsX5 11-28-2006 04:32 PM

Where did you get the M3/M steering wheel and the carbon fiber interior? I have a set of Angel Eyes, I just have yet to install them. I finally put the shadow black grille on last night, I need to update my pictures with that. Bimmian.com has some nice carbon fiber features that I'm looking into getting. I like the chrome silver look. What other ideas do you have?
