Need your help
Guys I need a little info concerning warranty items. I brought my X5 in for maintenance work last week and had both my drive belts replaced I was charged 200$, after a little research I realized that the belts are covered under the original owner warranty.
Am I reading this wrong or did I just get screwed out of 200$ ?? Any help would be appreciated. |
What year?

Yeah - what year is your X? Sounds like that would be covered under maintenance, not warranty...

Belts are maintenance for sure.

I had a head gasket replaced because it was leaking and they tried to charge me for it, so I figure that they're trying to take me for a ride. My suspensions feeling kinda soft but they said there's no play. I can hear and feel every bump and pothole resonating through the cabin. I'm starting to get really impatient with my dealership, I bet they cant wait for my warranty to be over. |
depends on ur year and mileage.
|
are u over 50k miles?
|
Well, when I got my '04, the maintenance program was good for 4 years or 50K miles, whichever comes first. Did you get the same? Perhaps your mileage is over???
|
Yep. Should be covered.

It's probably not a stretch for them to call that normal wear, but it's certainly worth asking... GL!

Belts are specifically excluded from normal warranty and included in maintenance. If you're under maintenance anymore, you have no grounds for a request. |
The maintenance plan in Canada did not get extended in 2003 (I have a 2003 and a 2004, and they are both 3 year). It has been extended since then. However, our maintenance plan is scheduled maintenance, not full maintenance like the US has. All that is covered here is the oil change and filter, microfilter, and brake fluid change, as well as roadside assistance. Those wear item replacements are only done according to the green lights (or 2 years for brake fluid). No brakes, wiper blades, clutches, belts, etc. A new vehicle purchaser can upgrade to full maintenance, but any owner that paid extra would likely know they had purchased it.
Aside from that, agree with Vinuneuro that belts are definitely a maintenance item. A belt that fails at 73,000 km is not defective, it is worn out. |

Thanks for all the replies.
I figured since they were trying to pull a fast one with the head gasket (which my SA also told me isnt covered under the CPO plan  B.S.) I would'nt put it past them to charge me for a belt that's covered under warranty. It is stated in the service and warranty manual that belts and other wear items are covered only in the case of a manufacturing or installation defect. Quote:
Thanks again guys. |
