New guy post...
Hello everyone.
Let's see, where to start. I'll start with what I drive now. I have an 06 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8. For those of you that aren't familiar with this Jeep, allow me to bring you up to speed.. 0-60 in 4.4 seconds and hugs the road and brakes like my 98 M3. Well, that's where the fun ends! More on that later… This "thing" is blistering fast. So far, in a 0-60 "test" I beat a new M5, M3, 911 C4S, Audi S4 and the list goes on. She brings me tons of fun every day, and the sound with the intake makes the car sound like a NASCAR,,, no kidding... Here's the short list on why I'm parting with her. 1. The front Brembos are SO BIG that there are NO 18 or 19" rims on the planet that fit over those monsters. I could have picked up 20" rims or slapped snows on the OEM ($1500 per wheel) wheels, but didn't think that was a great idea. I need my vehicles to perform VERY good in the snow for I'm up and out the door at 5:30am, before the plows hit and I also drive on the highways very often. 2. The ride is VERY hard. Its fine for me, I’m only 36 (as of yesterday) however my wife and I are planning on starting a family soon and when you have a passenger's head that hits the roof after going over a bump, you need to think again about what you're driving. 3. I miss the luxurious interior of a BMW. I didn’t think it would bother me as much as it did, but it did. Every time I got into my wife’s wagon I couldn’t believe “how” much nicer her interior was than mine. My p-leather seats were a joke. There are a few other small reasons but those two are the main issues. . I came out of an 03 FX-35 before the SRT, and before that a 2000 540i, then the 98 M3, and you know how the list just keeps going on and on... My wife is in a 06 325xi wagon and I had a 2000 BMW K1200RS for a while. Yes, I'm a BMW guy but wanted to try something different with the Infiniti and Jeep. OK, I'm back now, I’m sorry, I learned my lesson and won't do it again, LOL. On Thursday I'm picking up what I really wanted before I picked up the SRT, an 06 4.8 X5 in silver with all the trimmings. They took 8K off the sticker and gave me 39K for my Jeep (Paid 43K new in April) with 12,200 miles. AND, because I’m trading my car in, I get the tax credit, and that’s just shy of 3K. All in all, I’m happy with the deal. So, I’ll be here for a while. It feels good to be back. PS - I already have 18" wheels with Ice/Snows ordered as well as Sirius radio & IPOD Dice adapter and 8000K replacement bulbs for the OEM HID's. Yeah, I like to mod... ;) |
Congrats on you '06 X5 purchase. The SRT-8 is a beast but there has to be a lot more to a great driver's car than a really fast straight line time. You are going to love your X5.
Glad to have you around and post some pics soon. :xoutpost: |
:xoutpost: Yep, need pics!

So are you totally against someone buying an SRT? I use to have a '98 5.9 Grand Cherokee and liked it a lot. After the 5.9 I moved over to BMW and got a 4.4 and now I am in a 4.8is. I love the 4.8 but I rode in one of my buddies SRT and that thing is fast.... well give me some feedback that will make me take my mind off of it if you can.. by the way I am not dogging the 4.8 because it is one of my favorite cars I have ever driven...
