Deer Hits Me!!

2 Attachment(s)
Yes!! A deer actually ran into the side of my car!!

I was driving up the road to my house and BANG!! startled the hell out of me and my sister...I didnt even know what hit me until I got out and the driver in the car behind me told me a deer had just tried to tackle my car...I tried to catch up to the deer, to take some pictures..maybe see if he/she was alright but ran off too quickly

Anyhow, I'm wondering if my insurance company will just laugh at me when I tell them a deer ran into my car...although I did get a witness. Ahh! what an experience

Quicksilver 11-30-2006 02:47 AM

Your gonna need that witness.

bimmerFanatic 11-30-2006 03:12 AM

Wow...You'd think the deer wouldn't survive a hit like that.

X5Flyboy 11-30-2006 03:22 AM

What numbers did you play in the lottery? Because I want to know which ones NOT to play. Talk about bad luck! When I'm in NJ, I'm always on the lookout for deer because they are reaching epic numbers. Dawn & dusk are the worst times. It all depends what your deductable is. Might just be less expensive to repair without the insurance company's involvement.

I dunno...judging from the amount of damage and its location, its gonna be well over $1k. Sorry:(

Yup - I have dents on the passenger side just like your second pic and I was quoted about $1200 to fix both doors.

ncx 11-30-2006 10:01 AM

$1200, ouch. Bambi should have been more careful. At least you did not lose control! Could have been so much worse.

Wonder if those cheap little deer whistles are really effective?

drew 11-30-2006 10:03 AM

if there is any hair from the deer remaining on the car be sure to take some close up pics... this may be your only proof.

tests... reveal they do not work.

EZDozzit 11-30-2006 10:28 AM

Yikes! The wrath of Bambi. :yikes:

Absolutley try to find some fur and get your witness. Ouch. Not one, but three panels thonked!

dr.jay 11-30-2006 10:35 AM

Wow that sucks, very unfortunate

Dblock2151 11-30-2006 12:35 PM

That's crazy! But I'm glad you're okay.

alpac 11-30-2006 12:49 PM

Sorry bro. That is really bad luck. Hitting a deer is what scares me the most when I am riding my motorbike. Are these deer whistles really ineffective?

Hal88 11-30-2006 12:53 PM

I think that if you have full coverage it shouldn't matter if you have a witness.

noncom23 11-30-2006 12:54 PM

Happens a lot in Tx. Ins should be fine. Sorry about your plight.

China Man 11-30-2006 01:30 PM

you should be OK since you have a witness ...

sorry to be blunt, but that deer went to town on your 4.6, eh? 3 panels... :( as long as you're ok, though, that's what's most important ...

don't think I can say much for that deer, though, a deer running INTO an X5 is like taking a civic and running it into an 80's lincoln town car

2002Silver4.6is 11-30-2006 02:38 PM

I bet Dent Wizard can make that look like new!

nupe10123 11-30-2006 02:45 PM

Sorry this happened to you, glad you are o.k. Maybe the dents can be 'pulled' out without pait etc instead of replacing anything.

Curious Joel 11-30-2006 05:05 PM

The same thing happened to my brother in his A4. I live really in the middle of the woods.. We have forest for about a mile around our house. I honestly see deer every time I drive up my road at night. One time a deer ran into the A4 driver's door. It was a little one, only left a tiny ding. New Hampshire is deer country, for sure. They're EVERYWHERE. Unfortunately, we also have bigger problems to worry about. Moose. Imagine how scary it is to be going 70mph down the highway and have a 2000lb moose charge out in front of you! It happened to me one morning last year on the way into school.. I was driving down the 393 (I had just gotten onto the highway, was going about 65) and A moose had just run across the eastbound lanes and looked like it was going to have a nice, friendly meeting with my car just as it got into the left Westbound lane.. Thank god for BMW brakes! I slowed down enough so he was in the right lane by the time I went by him. He made it all the way across without harming anyone, which is lucky because it was in the middle of the morning rush.

Much thanks for everyones care and concern!!

I took some of your advice by checking for the deers hair on my car and sure enough I found enough evidence

In the last pic, Im not sure what part of the deer that is from...I thought maybe it was a tooth but doesn't feel like it...any experts out there?

drew 11-30-2006 07:49 PM

glad to see you found follicles. :D

i would not drive the vehicle in the rain or wash it... i would leave the hair on the vehicle and head straight to your insurance company or claims adjuster... the proof is in the hair. :D

asawadude 11-30-2006 08:57 PM

That's a fairly nasty crease in your left front fender below the 4.8is logo. I'd would definitely insist on a new fender. The doors might be fixable depending on the depth of the dents which is hard to judge from the picture.

Force the insurance company to R/R as many of the parts as possible instead of fixing them with metal repair and bondo.

Five0 12-01-2006 12:08 AM

Ouch, I feel your pain.. I had a 635CSi, my daughter was driving it and hit a deer resulting in some front end damage. She later side swiped a mailbox and removed the passenger side mirror. I decided it was time to sell the car while there was something left of it.

Late to the party, but........

I had that happen before to a 300ZX. I'm alone on the road when Bambi makes an appearance.

My insurance company handled the claim, no problem at all.

PROW355 06-30-2011 03:37 AM

Just had a little deer accident this past Spring, and thankful it wasnt nearly this bad...

Bambi is everywhere inside that engine compartment! IMO, you and I were better off than this guy.

Dking05 06-30-2011 11:49 AM

Im guessing that was the one thing not covered by warranty?
That had to have smelled le cooked bambie for awhile.

4.6toddy 06-30-2011 08:55 PM

I took out a deer two months ago today in my X5. was still driveable, all lights still worked etc... 3 weeks in the body shop - final assembly was terrible so it has to go back in after i solve my alternator problem next week.

It clipped the front left corner
replaced fender, headlight assy, bumper cover, foglight assy, hood, grill and some assorted trim panels and stuff. total bill $9000
covered by insurance

I was doing 140km/hr when i hit it.

Bought this for my birthday at the end of February and am ready for a divorce
Love driving it, hate the issues

call it my ex-5
