This is the 20 minute version that did not finish yesterday. Only half was uploaded yesterday. The second half has some good footage.
Hope this helps everyone that was thinking of doing this mod.

Man my cable connection rocks... 496MB in 8 minutes! :woot: Now I can't wait for fiber to get to my 'hood.

Thanks for posting this gigantic file. Your 4.8 sounds righteous. Only thing I am curious about now is to buy the X-pipe like Tim W's or not. http://www.xoutpost.com/showthread.php?t=773

I put 2 straight pipes right next to each other. Glad I did!

Nice. Can I see more pics of your x5. I just got my imola red x5 in this past sunday. I need more shots of that titanium grill, and other stuff to give me more simple ideal mods.

Got my resonator replaced with two straight pipes today, sounds pretty damn mean.

At startup you can hear a tiny bit of it for a second, then it idles and is dead silent. Through the rpm band, its very agressive and much more muscular than stock. Inside its pretty mellow during normal driving, but push the throttle and its pretty audible.

I didn't hear any rasp with a cold start with my 4.4i. Maybe I'm just toally missing it, but I think I'm rasp free

When you say 'more muscular' is that a true bum-dynamometer measure or do you think it feels more muscular because of the increased sound it makes?

Also how long did it take to cut and replace the resonator?

Did you fix it so that you could replace the resonator back at resale time?

It would be nice if there wasn't contradictory information as mentioned in this thread..

I'm not sure what the X-pipe is for an X5, but Dan seems to have experienced a loss of torque when he replaced the resonator on his 4.6is but everyone so far seems to give it a big 'thumbs-up' on the more recent 4.8is and 4.4i. Anyone have any explanation for this? :dunno:

I am not really sure about the 4.4, but maybe the removed resonators on the 4.6is didn't allow enough back pressure for the engine to run smoothly. And since the 4.8 has a bigger engine, there is more pressure coming out to keep the flow smooth... :dunno:

When I said more muscular, I was mainly referring to the sound, sorry about the confusion. My butt dyno doesn't feel any power loss or gain, so they were miniscule.

My install took 50 minutes.

I did have flanges installed so that the resonator can be put back in at a later time. The resonator is in my garage right now, its pretty heavy.

Here, Dan says he installed 2 smaller straight pipes in place of the big resonator (like I did) and had gotten all his power back. He had power loss when he had the other options in there. I was flogging the X5 around pretty hard yesterday, and did not notice any power loss.

I'm very happy with this mod, if you have any more questions, I'll be on later tonight.

I'm really glad you guys like your straight pipe results - and that they weren't the same as mine. I really felt the difference at light to medium throttle down low. Stomping on it sounded awesome (but I still think until it tached up a bit was off on power).

Another member on the board installed straight pipes on his '04 4.4. I got to listen to it in the parking lot. He also had that kind of "tinny" sound for a minute or 2 at startup, but that's all. Also said he didn't notice any power loss.

Not sure what to make of all this with my ex 4.6, but you all seem to be doing well with what you've done - & I think that's great.

Word of caution about turning the vehicle in if it is leased - they are likely to have a problem with it even with the flanges you've had made up. Not sure with a purchase if it matters as I don't know if they certify them under a non-leased turn it back in situation.

Love what you guys are doing!
