Thank to all on this site.
I purchased my '01 X5 about 8 months ago. Got a great deal on it as a friend (who has too much money) wanted to part with it. I was beginning to waffle a bit as to whether it was a good purchase as it seemed several things started hitting at once. Needed brakes and CV boots right out of the chute - almost $1K. Then the blower started acting up - then the service engine light - a disappearing rear wiper, etc.
I was beginning to think I would be spending a fortune at the stealer - haven't found a good local mechanic as I recently moved to the Denver area. Then I stumbled onto this site. Got great recommendations and was able to fix most everything myself. I have a new found love for my X5. Always loved driving it, but once you get your hands dirty, it seems to become part of the family. Now I am becoming less concerned about $$ to maintain -- I'm getting really concerned about all the $$ I want to spend on mods. Tires and rims have to come first - then I'll go from there. Very intrigued by the Angel Eyes. I'd like to hardwire the Ipod, but I'm wondering if that is possible since the previous owner has hardwired a Sirius Sportster. Love the Sat, but need the iPod as well. Not sure where to go mod wise after that -- anyone have thoughts on lower cost items to start with? Thanks to all for current and previous input -- have a great holiday season!! |
Welcome to the board. Nice story. I agree, DIY can be very satisfying and it gives you a connection to your X5 at a different level. Watch out for the Mod bug, once you start it can be hard to shake.
Lots of info on AE mod on the board. I'd start with easier mods like guage rings and alum pedals if you like that sort of thing. |
:xoutpost: Post some pictures and then watch the help start. One thing is for sure, we don't mind spending other peoples money around here  . Start with a set of running boards or a ///M steering wheel. Most people will say that is the best Mod for the money......Phil

:xoutpost: I'm a big fan of mudflaps to keep the stones and other road crap off your paint, but if you want to go the running board route, be sure to get the mudflaps that are compatible with them. Keep some more money aside, as the waterpump usually gives out between 60-80K. There are some nice aftermarket pumps with stainless steel impeller for your 3.0 (so far we V8 owners are stuck with BMW plastic impellers). Be sure to use BOTH your keys, as the internal battery for the remote functions is recharged during driving. This site is by far the best place to find out any questions you may have. May you have as much fun and enjoyment as I do with mine.
