Service Engine Soon...

So I lent my pops my truck to pick up his new plasma and he calls me with some bad news...after driving for a while he said the "Service Engine Soon" came on. He told me that he had gotten gas not too long before it came on so he thought it couldve been the gas cap. He also told me that while driving the steering wheel started vibrating kinda violently. Needless to say he was a lil nervous cuz he didn't wanna be responsible for messin anything up, which wouldnt be the case anyway. So yesterday I got gas expectin something to happen with the light. Well the light stayed on but I noticed another problem. My gas gauge wasn't moving. It got up to about half and the range didn't move either. As I drove the needle and the range slowly went up one mile at a time until it was full. I'm hoping the SES light is just an issue with something small involving the gas tank...and I was thinkin maybe its just time for a tire rotation....def wishful thinkin...any feedback??

If you have an AutoZone nearby, they will hook up their meter for free and tell you what codes are coming up and what they mean. If it's a real issue you can have it addressed -- if it's relatively meaningless, they can clear the code for you and make the light go off.

Regarding the wheel shake -- he didn't go through any mud or anything did he? If you get some mud inside a rim, it what shake like crazy.

Don't ask how I know -- long story.
