Jump starting with the X5
Last week, the wife's Suburban wouldn't start. Rolled it out into the driveway and attempted to jump it with the X. Found the terminals under the hood - but when I hooked up the cables, I got nothing. Not even a little spark. Am I doing something wrong here, or is it possible that the previous owner replaced the battery and didn't get the cable properly connected? Thoughts?

Where did you connect the ground cable? it has to be metal and not a painted surface.
|
If you connect to the positive terminal on the firewall and to the ground lug on the driver side fender you should have 12V with the engine running.
|
There is a ground Lug? I gotta read that manual.

Yeah there is a big lug/bolt on the drivers side fender that you connect too!!
|
It looks just like the positive lug but it's mounted on the inside of the driver side (left hand drive) fender. Also, it doesn't have a cover on it like the positive terminal. It's located just outboard of the oil filter and power steering res on a 4.4 ltr.

I run my Batt Tender through there: there is power there, if hooked properly. If you have you motor on, it should fire up any other car, no prob. GL,mD |
Here is a quick pic of what it looks like:

Sudesh,
Just curious, what's the wiring for? My 2001 4.4 ltr had nothing connected to it. It now has an additional engine ground cable connected. It was apart of my troubleshooting of the "no start" feature. |
Steve I dont have a clue my friend!!! My X is a 12/2003 4.6is and I always wondered myself what its for? There is a positive and negative cable that runs into the small pack that you can see in the second pic.

Sudesh,
Weird...no cable/wiring on my old '01 3.0, lug either. BR,mD |
Yeah I really dont know what it is?? I'll start another thread to see if any of the experts know!

It looks like a realy big capacitor. One way to find out is to disconnect it and see what stops working. I would be real careful if it is a capacitor. It will probably have enough juice to straightenl your short hairs.
