Question about Sport mode in 4.6IS

I was driving the other day an wanted to play a bit so I switched the gear to sport mode and didn't noticed the RPM gauge jump or the vehicle gear down. I just figured I may have missed it so i put it back to automatic and then back to sport and still didn't notice the RPM gauge jump or the vehicle gear down. So then I put it in manual and went thru the gears for a while like that but was bothered by the sport mode. I got home threw it in sport mode and felt it gear down while pulling up to the drive way. Any info about the sport mode would be greatly appreciated.

Is sport mode suppose to respond like 4th gear in manual or automatic with a little kick?

Is sport mode suppose to feel like the 4th gear in automatic? (it's been a while since i shifted it so i'm a little confused)

Thanks

when I put in in sport mode the car doesnt change rpms. All it does for me is make it go to redline when I accelerate (basically floor it).

I only throw it on S when I am flooring my car on the highway or when I am trying to pass a car that is going very slow.

I do not leave it on S when I am going under 40 because the car kicks, it gears down like you said. Therefore I just switch from S and D. D for speeds less than 40 and S for speeds higher than 40.

Mine acts the same...at speed it will not shift down or raise the rpm at cruise when shifted into sport mode, but it will shift sooner into a lower gear while accelerating.

The system simply changes shift points to a higher rpm range, and holds rpm in a given area for the related speed...keeps the engine in the sweet spot...and yes it will down shift when in S mode while slowing down.
