Thanks for the ego boost.
I have had people help me out in the past (with more than just vehicles). I'm just paying it forward. By the by, I haven't been able to find anything that shows or says the anitfreeze/coolant runs through the intake or the throttle walls. At this point I'm stumped. I'm going to go back and reread to see if we missed anything. |
lets go back to the injectors. Have you ever had them cleaned?
I know a lot of people don't believe in the bottles of injector cleaner but they really do work. Long story short, a mechanic I use to know once proved to me doing a double dose of injector cleaner in two consecutive tank fulls, cleans the injectors as well as pulling them and bench cleaning them. BTW, it cost me a case of beer. The only down fall is they don't get flow tested. Before you ask. . .Lucas Oil's version seems to work well. I'm not convinced it's an injector but with 108K plus miles it won't hurt to give them a cleaning. |
Yes Steve, let me take a moment to thank you for your time. I owe you a case of your favorite beer. At this point I'll have to bring it out to you in the E30 :-). Fresh off the Oct. Nova Scotia trip, central Pa. would be a walk in the park. As long as there is no snow :-) E30's are crap in the snow.
I'll pick up the injector cleaner tomorrow. I have not had that done (136K 2nd owner). When I had the "Chemical Test" done I was told he also clean my throttle body (no difference). I would like to get that little "miss" at start up out of there, it's never been there before. |
I'm glad I can help (at least try to anyway).
I'll make you a deal. Hold the beer for now. When we find the cause, we can get together and share a couple then. In the mean time, if you can help someone, pay it forward. Remember, two bottles in each tank full, times two tank fulls. Total of four bottles. It was the best bet I ever lost. It cost me a case of beer; but, it saved me lots of money down the road. My mechanic buddy had me run the two times two through my 91 Jetta with 125k miles on it. We then flow tested the injectors. They looked pretty good. Ran them through a wash cycle and flow tested them again. Absolutly no change in the flow test. For him to prove me wrong it cost me a case of beer and four injector o-rings. I actually think I came out ahead. |
Thanks, 1/2 tank to go on the first couple of bottles, I thought I might take care of it this weekend but the E30 is getting in the way. Still working on what appears to be a "rear" wheel bearing (both front have been replace). The rear are a little to detect and replace. The tool is about $300 bucks. No test, just kind "pot luck". But as you know it's cold on the east coast and weekend driveway repairs are put on hold.
Thanks again |
An update. Steve a little more than a 1/4 tank to go on the 2nd set of "Lucas" injector cleaner and the jury still out. I have to say it appears 80% of the time I do not get the rough ideal (less than a minute) at start up, but every once and a while I notice it. I'll pay closer attention (sorry).
A week ago I needed to go up to Summit, NJ (X5) I had been keeping it local (ie milky stuff) sure enough it was back. Emergency oil change after about 2K on the oil. I also will have a site soon that will analyze the oil. Last. We determine too big of a job, I was referred to "Mr M Car" in New Jersey. Anyone have any experience? Thanks |
I'm sorry to hear about the latest. I have not heard anything, good or bad about Mr. M Car.
Analyzing the oil will be the end all to all of our questions. Please let us know what they say. On a side note, I was born in Summit. Overlook Hospital sure has grown in 40 years. |
Just an update. The "oil sample" container came on Tuesday, mailed it 2nd. day air. Also you can stick to the "Lucas" injector cleaner, it does have an affect. When the truck sits for a couple of days I don't get the "small amount of blue smoke or the white smoke". I'll keep a close eye on it, but I still get the antifreeze smell. But as you know it's just to cold on th east coast. to check anything.
Thanks again. |
Update pending. Just back from picking up the X5. Very tired. Guys thanks for everything. Details to follow.

Well?
