2000 x5 4.4 oil filter?

Is the oild filter under the hood? After reviewing the oil change DIY guide I surwe did not see it down under, but did See what looked like the canister nest to the ATF reserviour on the drivers side. Is that it?

Also it is a 36mm to remove that correct?

thanks mark

On the 4.4 engines without valvetronic the oil filter is on top. It's the aluminum canister with the black composite top. I believe the fitting is 36mm. Good luck

Because there is not much torque needed, I use an adjustable wrench.

As mentioned, a box wrench is sufficient.

What else are you going to use a 10 dollar socket on??

Well I went ahead and got the socket ($9) and while there also bought a 3piece 1/2'' drive extension set ($13) not the craftsmen but there companion brand. I just figure there will be something down the road I will use it on besides the X5.

Its kinda like who would have thought I would own BMW either.
