Update about the X5 stolen

Hi, all.

Weird thing happened a few days ago; the X5 was found at the parking lot of my dealer here without any damage. It was stolen at parkade of Northland Village Shopping Mall here in Calgary.

I visited the dealer to discuss a 3 or 5 series to replace the X5, but I found my X5 sitting in the parking lot. No one at the dealer noticed that my car was there. It was unlocked when I found it and my key worked perfectly. I could start the engine and lock/unlock the car.

What I am curious is how the car was driven without a key. I had all my keys including the plastic key. Everybody knows/claims that an X5 cannot be driven without a key. But the vehicle was parked perfectly in the parking lot meaning that the car was driven to get there.

I asked my dealer here to find out how many keys were ordered, but they said one, which I ordered. So weird. Who on earth has access to the car???

Since it was so scary that I would call BMW Canada to initiate some investigation or something like that, but I don't know if they want to get involved or to take care of this kind of issue.

The dealer... First time I reported the theft, they seemed to help me a lot; they offered loaner vehicle for weekend and helped me with BMW Assist, but after all they were just being nice to sell one more car to me. They implicitly hinted that BMW Canada would be nice to me in every aspect if I buy one more BMW to replace the X5, but BMW did not give any da** in regards to early termination of the lease. BMW Canada just sent a document with a purchase price on it and I had to sign on that document to turn in the vehicle. It was just normal trade-in procedure. No mercy or anything like that.

I think I was so stupid that I was expecting such mercy or anything like that. After all, I learned that BMW dealers or sales people there were no different from other car dealers out there. They are just 100% pure business men or business entity in nice suits rather than in jeans and jumpers.

Sad...

Haha... Yes, that was possible. Actually, I was trying to remember everything I did on that day my X5 was stolen. I even felt like I was driving the vehicle, too.

One of my friend said, "It was YOU" to get a reimbursement check from an insurance company.

wow sounds like someone at that dealership took your car and drove it there.

They probably made a replica key and kept it for this very reason.

What kind of X5 is this? You got mods?

supersteve 12-17-2006 09:24 AM

Instead of your X5. . . What is YOUR make and model? What year? How many miles?

Early alzheimers???

Wagner 12-17-2006 09:46 AM

That is really odd.

Police have any input?

briandwlee 12-17-2006 01:21 PM

It's 2005 X5 3.0i and about 22000km on it. No mods at alll. Police just closed the case without further investigation.

a friend playing a joke on you maybe.????

MatzoBallsX5 12-17-2006 02:07 PM

That's a messed up joke for a friend to play...you should never screw with a friends car

There is special software thieves use with a laptop in order to take over cars without using a key. I remember hearing about that famous soccer guy Beckham losing his X5 this way.

bimmerFanatic 12-17-2006 02:52 PM

:excited: Isn't it obvious? Someone at the dealership is buying stolen cars! Maybe even initiating the thefts (they have all the info they need (ordering spare keys etcs)). You happened to find your own car and caught them red handed! That's why they are being so nice. Shhhhhhh. Just my conspiracy theory....

So whts the story now, r u still getting money from insurance or u get to keep the X.
On a side note, wht kinda mercy u were looking for from BMW. After all it is business, i dont' know what world u live in, but out here its all about money, emotions wont put food on your plate. You get ur money back from insurance, bank gets their share of the money from insurance, dealer gets to sell you another vehicle. Everyone is happy, i'm trying very hard to see a problem with this picture????

Usual crack cop work...didn't they even wonder a little, how
your "no key" car got ripped and ended up parked like a lost
Loaner in the Stlr's lot?

You should think about doing your story on Oprah or...

Tat's why I am stupid. Insurance does not pay for the vehicle, but pay for repair. That's it. I have to keep it but I don't want to, so I am trading in the X5 and getting a 328xi.

motordavid 12-17-2006 06:39 PM

Why don't you want to keep it?
Because it was "stolen", or damaged or,
you think there is a key floating out there,'
or...

Just wondering.
