New to the site and have to say it is great, informative, and looks like there are some knowledgable folks here.

I just picked up a 2003 4.4 CPO off of ebay from SLC and drove back to Denver on Friday. I think I already have to take it in.

Have a few questions and if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

When starting the car I occasionally hear what sounds like grinding of the starter (kind of like starting an already started car.) Does anyone have any experience on this? Is the starter going bad? Is it covered in the warrenty?

Also it looks like i have the headlight washers but I have no clue how to operate them? Probably easy but I can not figure it out.

Last but not least and it is just a inconvience ( I do not have nav ) how do I clear the destination on the computer. I have tried to hit, set clear, 0, I left it at 1 mile and now it is counting into the negative.

Sorry guess I was wrong when I said last question ;).. When scrolling thru the program menu on the insturment console how do I eliminate items I do not want to see. Obviouslly want time, date, range, etc.. But Timer 1 and Timer 2 I do not need (maybe because I do not know what they do lol).

I don't have your model X5 but this might help with some of your questions. Start with page 80 and scroll thru 81, 82, ect.

Head light washers only work when the head lights are on.

Your headlight wash will only work when headlights are on. My dad also had problems resetting the destination on his X5, so from what I recall, either I unplugged the battery for 15mins and it reset, or I unplugged the instrument cluster and it reset. Cant remember now as I did it some time ago for him. But start with the battery first, if that doesent work then it must have been the instrument cluster method. There could be another way to do it but I couldnt find it. I never use the feature on my X5.

Could be the belts. Should be covered under CPO. Or it could be a bad starter... I dunno.

The headlights have to be on. On our 04' X5 I believe you push the button on the wiper stalk which has an arrow and S inside the arrow - that may just be because we have the light/rain sensor. But I could be wrong, it might work if the headlights are on and you simply engage the wiper fluid.

Once you engage it, there is a time delay until it will engage again, designed to save you on wiper fluid. I believe its a minute or 2. So if you keep engaging the wiper during the delay, the headlight washers will not activate until the time delay has passed.

Just leave it alone. Or punch in a new number. The idea behind this setting, is that you punch in approximately how many miles you need to travel, and then it tells you if you've driven just right (0 miles) or gone too far (-1, -2,...).

You can't eliminate computer functions unfortunately. They are always going to be there. Timer 1 is used to say, measure how long a trip is. Or if your quick with it you can time how fast your car goes 0-60! :)

The computer functions are really useful when taking long road trips. Punch in the miles to the destination, start the timer, reset the gas mileage and away you go. With that, you'll know at the end of the trip, how well you've been fairing on gas mileage, how many more miles to go (and how many more miles in the tank with the Range function) as well as how long it took.

On another note, very nice color and good looking X5. How do you like the rest of the vehicle?

The rest of the vehicle is great. Got to know it well when I picked it up from SLC and drove back to Denver. The time just few by on the trip back and learned a lot. I like the color as well. Do not know the "official" name for it but the dealer had it listed as green???
